New Car Handling Advice from Preston Motor

Sunday, February 7th, 2010

Simple safety issues are very important to consider when buying a new car, or a new-to-you vehicle. Even after you’ve test-driven a Chevrolet on the Salisbury roads and feel comfortable behind the wheel, don’t forget to give yourself some extra time getting used to the handling and feel of the car. When you close the deal and drive your car off the lot, two important things to watch out for are braking distances and acceleration power of your new vehicle.

How do the brakes work compared to your old car or truck? When driving a new Ford in Millsboro, do the brakes react more sensitively? Stopping distances may be longer or shorter depending on the make and model. If you’re buying a more powerful vehicle, give yourself plenty of extra time to brake until you’re used to the new handling.

Beware of how the car responds when accelerating from a red light or stop sign. If you’re not used to a more powerful engine, it’s easy to hit the accelerator a bit too hard at first. After all that time in your old car, you expect a slower reaction when you step on the gas. There are plenty of stories about fender-benders in new vehicles because the driver wasn’t quite used to the handling. It takes time to get used to the nuances of your new Ford or Chevrolet when navigating Salisbury roads, but a little extra care should do the trick.

Preston Motor and Alternative Fuels

Monday, February 1st, 2010

Over the past few years, the country has seen quite a shift towards exploring alternative fuels to power their Ford cars and trucks.  Alternative fuel-powered vehicles are slowly entering the market place.  As a service to you, our Maryland Ford dealership customers, I’ve put together this brief list of the different types that are available now, and what is right around the corner.

Ethanol has arguably become the most popular alternative fuel over the past few years.  Made from sugar cane or corn, there are vehicles sold today that can run on a gasoline/ethanol mixture.  One major drawback to using ethanol is that it is not as fuel efficient as gasoline and it can be more expensive.

Electricity as a fuel is becoming more practical as hybrid fuel solutions in engines which are powered by both electricity and gasoline.  A vehicle that only used electricity would need to be plugged in before being driven.

Cars and trucks powered by hydrogen alone would produce no emissions, just water vapor.  Most of the research being done on hydrogen as a power source is how hydrogen fuel cells could power a car or truck.

Most Salisbury residents are trying to do their part to reduce their impact on the environment, and Preston Motor is no exception.  We look forward to bringing you more information about alternative fuels as it becomes available, and always carrying the latest auto technology at our Eastern Shore Ford dealership.

Tips For a Successful Test Drive from Preston Motor

Monday, January 25th, 2010

One of the most important steps when buying a new or used Ford is taking that car on a test drive.  Test-driving a vehicle that you’re considering purchasing allows you to determine whether or not the particular Ford you are interested in is the right one for you.

Before you even set foot on our Delaware Ford dealership lot, know what you are looking for.  You’ll be better able to determine which car or truck is right for you when you know what you need.  If have a long commute, good gas mileage might be something that is important to you.  If you have kids, a big backseat might be necessary.

It’s also important to get a feel for how the Ford drives.  For example, if spend a lot of time driving on the highway, make sure that you have an opportunity drive it somewhere on an interstate in conditions that are similar to those in which you drive, to make sure you feel comfortable driving at those speeds.

Remember these points while test driving your next Ford around Maryland to help make sure you find the right Ford for you and your family.  After all, this is why we encourage the customers at our Salisbury Ford dealership to take a test drive.  Contact our sales staff at 877-834-3396 or on our Preston Motor website.

Child Car Seat Info From Preston Motor

Tuesday, January 19th, 2010

Many of our Maryland Ford customers have pre-teen children whom they are driving around the Salisbury area on a daily basis.  I wanted to put together a brief post as a reminder about the types of car seats children should be riding in to help protect them in the event of an accident.

Recommendations say that infants should be kept in a rear-facing infant seat until they weigh at least 20 pounds and are one year old.  They should then sit in a rear-facing child seat until they get too big (according to the height and weight requirements), and should then move into a forward-facing child seat with a full harness.

Once they outgrow the child seat, school aged children should sit in a booster seat until they a regular seat belt fits.  This usually happens between the ages of 8 and 12, though children under the age of 13 should ride in the back seat of your Delaware Ford since air bags could injure them if they were in the front seat.

Child safety is extremely important to the dealer staff at Preston Motor, so if you have any questions about how the proper use of child and infant safety seats, contact our Ocean City Ford dealership for more information.  You can reach us by visiting our Annapolis Ford website, or by calling us at 877-760-5870.

Preston Motor Helps With Roadside Emergencies

Thursday, January 14th, 2010

Unfortunately, our Delaware Ford dealer customers occasionally have to deal with unavoidable roadside emergencies.  I’ve put together some tips to make sure you are prepared in case you are unfortunate enough to encounter car trouble on your next road trip.

Your Ford car or truck should always have a charged cell phone in it.  Using a cell phone while actually driving your Ford in Maryland can be dangerous, but having one available to use in case of an emergency will allow you to call for help.  If you don’t have or want a traditional cell phone plan, consider getting a pre-paid phone as an alternative.

Keep a spare tire in your Ford in case you get a flat tire, as well as the tools needed to change the tire.  Sometimes a can of temporary tire foam will be sufficient to allow you to drive to repair shop. It’s also a good idea to have a blanket, flashlight, and flares while driving your Ford on the Eastern Shore.

While our Maryland Ford dealership sells safe vehicles, sometimes roadside emergencies happen.  Ask our Ocean City Ford service department about warranties and roadside assistance packages we sell, or may be included in the purchase of your new or used Ford in Dover.

Happy Holidays from Preston Motor to all of our Maryland Ford dealer customers!  Whatever holiday or holidays you and your family celebrate, we wish you the best of times and good cheer; it wouldn’t be possible for us to be the successful Annapolis Ford dealership we are today if it weren’t for our loyal customers.

Use Less Gas with Tips from Preston Motor

Tuesday, December 15th, 2009

The dealer staff at Preston Motor continually works to help save our Salisbury Ford dealership customers money, so we’ve put together this list of tips to help you reduce the amount of money you have to spend on gas on the Eastern Shore, helping our Dover Ford dealership customers get the most for their money.

Minimize the time your Ford is running but not moving by doing things like combining errands and avoiding traffic and stoplights when possible.  When your car is running but not moving, you are essentially wasting gas and money.  When you reduce the time your vehicles spends idling, you not only reduce gas costs, but also help reduce air pollution on the Eastern Shore.

The heavier your car, the more gas it uses, so reduce all of the unneeded stuff in your car or truck.  Take out the unnecessary things in your trunk or car, not including your emergency roadside kit, to help reduce the amount of money you have to spend on gas.

Bring your vehicle into our Ocean City Ford dealership for service.  Our Eastern Shore Ford service department staff can make sure your tires are properly inflated, that they are aligned correctly, and that you have clean filters and fluids under the hood.  Spending a little to make sure your Ford runs properly will use less gas, meaning you have to pay for less of it, and save money in the long run.

Call Preston Motor at 410-673-7171 for more tips on how you can reduce the money spent on gas for your car, like trading in current vehicle at our Annapolis Ford dealership for one with better gas mileage, or enter your contact info on our Salisbury Ford dealership.
