Mazda’s North American Operations (MNAO) just wrote a rather larger check out to St. Jude Children’s Hospital in the amount of $1,ooo,ooo!  These are all the funds that Mazda has raised over approximately a 2 month time period from their Drive for Good campaign.  If you’ve every been inside the Preston Mazda Showroom you probably saw this sign:

mazda drive for good donation

Now, just this week Mazda totaled up the money raised from this campaign and rounded up to give an even one-million-dollars to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.  This money will fund the research and treatment of childhood cancers and other life-threatening diseases.  “Mazda’s donation to St. Jude helps them achieve their mission of reducing the cancer rate among children and allows them to continue their treatment without ever giving a patient’s family a bill,” said Jim O’Sullivan, President and Chief Executive Officer at MNAO.

The large sum was achieved by MNAO donating $150 per Mazda sold from November 21st, 2014 through January 2nd, 2015.  That means that just in North America alone there were over 6,500 new Mazda’s purchased in about 45 days – that is remarkable.  That statistic also speaks to the fact that Mazda is such a popular and reliable auto brand.

Mazda had also pledged to donate 1 hour of community service for every test drive taken during that time period.  That ended up totaling 66,000 hours!  The company’s employees and dealers plan to work together to contribute the full amount of service hours.

The 2014 F-150 is at the Preston Automotive Group! Now this may seem like old news because the 2015 version has already been out for several months, but we do in fact still have over 150 of these 2014 F-150’s spread out at our 5 Ford Dealers across the Eastern Shore of Maryland and Delaware!  Don’t get us wrong, the newest F-150’s are really nice and we have plenty of them too, but last years model — the 2014 F-150 — ain’t no slouch.  At our Preston Ford and Boulevard Ford locations we are also celebrating Truck Month for the remaining days of April.  All these reasons are such that you should definitely look into the benefits of a 2014 Ford F-150 from the Preston Automotive Group.

If you follow our blog, then you already know that April has been deemed Car Care Awareness Month.  As Spring turns into Summer you’re going to want to have your vehicle’s maintenance in tip top shape.  So, we, along with carcare.org, have put together a list of regular maintenance items that you should be checking and how often.

car care awareness recommended vehicle maintenance

There are a handful of things that you should be checking regularly — before any longer trip of 50 miles or more and every now and then in between — just to be safe.  You’ll want to find out about any Dashboard Indicator Lights that are on.  This includes but is not limited to the check engine, low engine oil, low tire pressure, and door ajar lights.  You’ll also want to check out your actual lights.  That would be Headlights, Taillights, Turn Signals, etc.  Some of these are illegal to drive if they are burnt out.  Tire Inflation and Condition is another thing that should be checked frequently.  We mentioned the tire inflation dashboard light but your tires may be low without the light being on — AND most older cars don’t even warn you.  If you are driving with under or over-inflated tires, that will cause them to wear unevenly.  It’s alway important to look for irregular wear on your tires, so that way you know what to do to fix it.  Whether it may be needing an alignment or simply putting some air in or taking some air out like we said before, and that it is important to regularly check your tires.  Another thing you should be checking often would be Windshield Washer Fluid.  It is important to be able to see while driving (obviously), so being able to clean your windshield off at a moments notice is imperative.  Make sure your washer fluid is somewhere close to the Full line.  One of the last things we recommend you check frequently is your Engine Oil Level.  If we had to rank the most important components of a car, then the engine would be at the top because without an engine the car would not go.  That being said, the engine wouldn’t matter at all without oil, so if you think about it, that means engine oil is the most important component of a car.  And just because you got an oil change last month, doesn’t mean you shouldn’t be checking the oil level several times before the next change.  You could have a slow leak, your oil cap could have been put back on loosely, or any number of other reasons, and then you may find yourself with a blown engine.

Now that you know what to check on a regular basis — once twice a month — here are the maintenance items you should be checking (or getting someone to check) every 3 moths or 3,000 miles.

3 Months / 3,000 Mile Maintenance

Battery and Cables

Engine Air Filter

Engine Oil

Exhaust

Hoses

Lights

Power Steering Fluid

Tire Inflation and Condition

Windshield Washer Fluid

You probably noticed that some of this was repeated from regular maintenance.  That is simply our way to stress that you keep on top of it at a minimum of every 3 months.  The following will be the maintenance that we recommend to have completed every 6 months or 6,000 miles.

6 Months / 6,000 Mile Maintenance

Chassis Lubrication

Power Steering Fluid

Tire Inflation and Condition

Windshield Washer Fluid

Wiper Blades

All these items are important, but the ones that should stick out to you are the fluids: the transmission fluid, engine oil, and power steering fluid.  These are all extremely important to making a car “go” and should be check at a minimum of every 6,000 miles.  The next set of maintenance recommendations are to be completed every 9 months or 9,000 miles.

All of this is repeat checks, but that is only because the next big check should be coming every year or 12,000 miles.  Depending on your state regulations, this is usually when you will have a car inspection.  However, if you aren’t required to get an inspection every year, as it is in Maryland, then you should be doing these things on your own.

2014 Ford F-150 at Preston Auto GroupThe most exciting thing about the 2014 F-150 is that it comes in 10 different trim levels!  That is an incredible amount of selection that you as the consumer get to choose from.  The XL and XLT are going to give you what is necessary to get the job done but not really anything beyond that.  The STX, FX2, FX4, and SVT Raptor are going to be your off-road, more rugged trim levels.  The Lariat, King Ranch, Platinum, and Limited editions will give you more luxury as you move up.  Whatever your tastes, you’re almost certain to find a 2014 Ford F-150 that meets your needs.  And with over 150 of them, the Preston Automotive Group should be your one stop truck shop!

2014 Ford F-150 at Preston Auto Group

The 2014 F-150’s all fall into an MSRP Range of $25,025-$50,985; HOWEVER, we are starting the them off at a low price of $17,995.  That’s potentially more than $7,000 off MSRP!  Since there are so many variations of the same truck, there are obviously going to be several engine options.  The 2014 models can be equipped with the following: A 3.5L EcoBoost V6, a 3.7L V6, a 5.0L V8, and the standard Raptor engine is the 6.2L V8.  These F-150s, when properly equipped, are rated to tow anything from 6,700 pounds all the way up to 11,300 pounds.  The F-150 is obviously a beast, and has been for years, so what about the interior?

2014 Ford F-150 at Preston Auto Group

Well, depending on the model you get, the interior can be very luxurious.  Some of the top models come standard with leather upholstery, MyFord Touch infotainment system and an 8-inch touchscreen to run it on, wood trim and a sunroof.  There are other nice features that you can obtain without having to spend top dollar such as keyless entry in the base XL model or chrome exterior trim on the XLT.  So, as you can see, there are an almost countless number of ways you could make one of our 2014 F-150’s uniquely yours.

If you’d like to check out our entire inventory of 2014 Ford F-150’s, then you can check out that link.  If you live close to one of our dealerships, but they don’t have the 2014 Truck for you, then be sure to look on our mother site www.prestonmotor.com.  We’ll make dealing with us easy and will even deliver the Truck to your door!  Please give us a call at 410-673-7171 if you see a 2014 F-150 that you like.

March of Dimes Preston auto groupThe Preston Automotive Group will organize a walk for the March of Dimes to take place on the grounds of the Preston Autoplex on May 3rd, 2015.  We have done this for many years and this year David Wilson Jr. will be the chairman for the event.  The March of Dimes March for Babies official mission reads, “We help moms have full-term pregnancies and research the problems that threaten the health of babies.”  It’s a fantastic cause and we are excited to be participating again!

We have already started to raise funds in order to reach our overall, Preston Automotive Group goal of $25,000.  Our accounting office, located in between the Ford and Hyundai Buildings, has had baked good sales, hot dog lunch sales, and 50-50 raffles in order to raise money for this tremendous cause.  We also have several other smaller teams across the Autoplex that have formed to help surpass our aforementioned goal.  Our employees are pushing it on social media because it is such a worthy organization.  You can even join our team if you want OR you can start your own!  You could start a team with your family members or even with your coworkers!  To join our team you will need to follow this link for Preston Automotive Group March of Dimes Team.  If you would like to start your own March of Dimes team then you would follow the second link.

The event will kickoff not on the 3rd but rather Saturday, May 2nd at dusk with an awesome fireworks display from Zambelli Fireworks in the field behind the Autoplex.  The walk, as mentioned, will take place on May 3rd.  Registration will begin at 12pm and the walk will begin promptly afterward at 1PM.  The course will start and end at the Preston Autoplex and travel 1.5 miles through the town of Preston and back — totaling 3 miles.  After the walk, at around 2PM, we will have Mike Hines and his band The Look perform and there will be food from local eateries.  In addition, there will be activities for kids as well as mascot appearances by Sherman Shorebird and the Preston Frog!

It’s bound to be a great day rain or shine and we are very excited about raising money for the March for Babies Organization.  Please join us on May 3rd for this wonderful event, we’d love to see you there!March of Dimes Preston auto group

The creative concept of the Ford EcoBoost Challenge is to give drivers a head-to-head test of their current vehicle with a new Ford vehicle.  Ford wants to know which car customers will prefer.  Hint: they have a pretty good inkling that everyone will favor Ford.

This has been an ongoing and mobile challenge taking place at 17 locations throughout the country.  The closest one to Preston, MD actually took place at Fed Ex Field on the weekend on March 28th, which we highlighted in an earlier blog post.  Ford featured some of its top vehicles including the 2015 F-150, Edge, Explorer, and Mustang.  These vehicles had the challengers proclaiming, “I’ll definitely be buying a Ford!” for one major reason: the EcoBoost Engines.

EcoBoost is a blend of two technologies that aren’t necessarily unique to Ford; however, Ford did coin and market the term EcoBoost.  The two technologies that make up an EcoBoost engine are turbocharging and direct injection.  When it’s put in laymen terms like that you probably realize that you’ve heard of many other vehicles that have turbocharged, direct injected engines, but unless they’re a Ford they’re not EcoBoost.  While people see the positives of getting the extra Eco (fuel economy) and extra Boost (acceleration), criticisms have come up that say the various EcoBoost engines don’t deliver as much on the fuel economy as they do the acceleration.  Nonetheless, it has been found to be a general consensus that the EcoBoost engines are just different enough to win people over.ford ecoboost challege

The EcoBoost Challenge will be taking place in 13 more cities between now and the end of June!  The next closest EcoBoost Challenge to the Eastern Shore will take place in Philadelphia on June 6th.  Check out the complete list of cities and dates below.  You will even have a chance to win a brand new 2015 Ford Edge if you attend one of the challenges.  It’s sure to be a fun start to summer with the EcoBoost Challenge Tour by Ford!

car care aware logoJoin the Preston Automotive Group in celebrating Car Care Awareness Month!  If you think about it, your vehicle is probably your second largest investment (second to your house if you own one).  If you have a vehicle you probably use it to drive to work every day, transport the kids to their activities, and get you to and from various other places, right?  And if it broke down or started to work improperly, then you might be in kind of a pickle, right?  Well, the goal of Car Care Awareness Month is to make sure people know how they should be taking care of their vehicle.

car care awareness statisticLast year during Nationwide Car Care Inspections, 84% failed at least one component of the inspection.  That means nearly every one of these drivers were potentially driving around in an unsafe vehicle.  Now, that number could be reflecting failures such as faulty taillights, low washer fluid, or some other small issue, but nonetheless it is a safety hazard if it causes your vehicle to fail an inspection.  There are all kinds of numbers that would scare you such as nearly 1 in 5 vehicles needed a new air filter, or 13% had the “check engine” light on.  But here’s the bottom line: most people don’t know what kind of regular maintenance should be completed on a car at each specific milestone.

Another part of Car Care Awareness’ mission is to give you the knowledge so you can detect small issues early before they turn into big problems.  Neglected vehicle care almost always means higher costs down the line.  The results found by carcare.org show that the majority of vehicle owners could save a substantial amount of money by being proactive in their vehicle maintenance.

So, our goal this month, alongside the Car Care Council, will be to inform you of the best way to look after one of your largest investments.  Whether you have a new or pre-owned vehicle, there are certain steps and precautions to take, and that is what we will be highlighting all month long!
