Preston Mazda has been a member of the Preston Automotive Group since 1990 and has been satisfying customers in both sales and service ever since then.  Preston Mazda’s Service department has won an abundance of awards.  All the technicians are Mazda Certified Technicians. Mike Snyder is a Master Automobile Technician.  Preston Mazda’s sales staff has won many awards. Karen Shirey, who has been with the company for 25 years received the 2013 Mazda training certification and is Elite Mazda Certified.  In order to earn this certification a sales person must have great customer service, be knowledgeable about the product and sell an abundant amount of Mazda vehicles over a long period of time. Chrystal Morris, who has been with Preston Automotive Group for seven years recently earned her master certification for Mazda.

There are many benefits to buying a pre-owned vehicle from the Preston Automotive Group. Preston Automotive Group is currently in their Mission Possible Pre-Owned Surplus Sell Off.  They have a surplus of pre-owned vehicles due to thier Top 100 Sales Drive.  Pre-Owned vehicles can often be just as appealing and worth the money as new vehicles.

Pre-Owned2

The first benefit is price.  Buying a new vehicle is expensive, especially once you get into high trim levels.  A used car is going to be less expensive and could even allow the customer to step up to a nicer model than expected.  It becomes possible to get all the features desired in a vehicle that would be extremely expensive when buying new.  Most used vehicles have desired features that are also available in new.

Another important benefit is that used vehicles don’t depreciate as much as new vehicles.  Cars lose value with each passing month and mile.  The steepest decline in a vehicles depreciation happens right away.  Some models lose 40 percent or more of their value in the first year.  With a used vehicle there is no depreciation set to hit the second the vehicle is driven off the lot.  There is also mental depreciation.  There isn’t a need to worry about the first parking lot ding or rock chip in the paint because chances are that the cars previous owners took care of that.  Vehicles don’t lose nearly as much value after the first year that they are driven off the lot.

There is also a lot of choice with a used car.  Although they can’t be made to order a customer can find a model and option package which might not be made any longer.  There are a lot of pre-owned vehicles out there that have only had one owner.  The chances of these vehicles being in excellent condition is very high.  A car with owner is less likely to have problems with it since many owners of newer model year vehicles keep their vehicles clean if they know they are going to trade it in.

There are also many certification programs that are available on used vehicles. The general benefits of Certified Pre-Owned vehicles include manufacturers usually consider only late-model, low mileage used cars and trucks with no history of major damage.  These vehicles are usually practically brand new.  Another benefit of a certification program is that the vehicles which are certified pre owned undergo a rigid inspection process of mechanical and cosmetic items before they become certified.  Certified pre-owned vehicles are normally covered by a warranty which extends a lot longer than the original factory warranty.  The warranty usually includes the same features as a new vehicle warranty.  There is also a lot of special financing which is available for Certified Pre-Owned vehicles.

The automotive industry is constantly bringing us new technologies that we have never seen before.  There are also some technologies that have been brought up but might not make it into vehicles.

Cars Talking

One technology that car manufacturers and the U.S. government are seriously looking into and researching is a technology where it would enable future cars to communicate with each other and objects around them.  Picture coming to an intersection as another vehicle runs a red light.  You can not see them at first but your vehicle gets a signal from the other car that it’s directly in your path and warns you of the potential collision, or even hits the brakes automatically to avoid an accident.  This developing technology is called Vehicle-to-Vehicle, it is being tested by manufacturers like Ford as a way to reduce accidents on the road.  It works by sending wireless signals to send information back and forth between cars about their location, speed and direction.  This information is then communicated to the cars around it in order to provide information on how to keep the vehicles at a safe distance from each other.  Researchers aren’t only considering V2V communication but also vehicle to infrastructure communication.  This would allow vehicles to communicate with things like road signs or traffic signs and provide information to the vehicle about safety issues.

Another technology being considered is the ability for a vehicle to drive itself.  Many tv shows and movies have had this idea for a long time.  In California and Nevada, Google engineers have tested self-driving cars on more than 200,000 miles of public highways and roads.  Google’s cars not only record images on the road but their computerized maps view road signs, f ind alternative routes and see traffic lights before they are even visible to a person.  By using lasers, radars and cameras the cars can analyze and process information about their surroundings faster than a human can.  In some of the Google’s tests the cars learned the details of a road by driving on it several times.

Another interesting future car technology is airbags that help to stop cars.  Ever since airbags have been added to vehicles they have continued to make their way around the inside of the vehicle.  Airbags are part of the overall safety of the vehicle.  Car manufacturers are experimenting with airbags that deploy from underneath the car that will help stop a vehicle before a crash.  The bags will also lift the vehicle up to eight centimeters which counters the cars dipping motion during hard braking.  This improves bumper to bumper contact and helps prevent passengers from sliding under seat belts during a collision.

Energy storing body panels are another possible technology we could eventually see in vehicles.  Exxon Mobil predicts that by 2040 half of all new cars that come off the production line will be hybrids.  This is great news for the environment but one of the problems with hybrids is that the batteries take up a lot of space and are heavy.  In Europe a group of nine auto manufacturers are currently researching and testing body panels that can store energy and that charge faster than conventional batteries of today.  These panels could reduce a cars weight by up to 15 percent.  The panels would capture energy produced by technologies like regenerative braking or when the car is plugged in overnight and then feed that energy back to the car when it’s needed.

Other technologies that people would like to see in vehicles are built in car seats and boosters.  This would make it much easier for parents who have young ones.  Instead of having to figure out how to hook up the car seat it would already be installed when the vehicle was purchased.  Another feature is auto adjustable cup holders that would fit any size cup.  Right now cup holders can only hold certain size cups.  Different shaped cups or water bottles do not fit into cup holder therefore they could make a mess in your car.  All of these technologies we could see in the near future and could really benefit the automotive industry.

The winter season is in full force and there are some features on vehicles that are ideal for driving in the elements that winter brings on!  Winter weather can affect the way you interact with your vehicle and the road. Extremely cold temperatures can impact how comfortable you are in your vehicle.  Ice on the road can also have a huge impact on the ability to drive safely.

The first feature excellent for driving in the winter is all-wheel drive.  All-wheel drive refers to a drive train system that includes a differential between the front and rear shafts.  A lot of the times this is coupled with a non-slip technology that will allow differentials to spin at different speeds, but still manage to maintain the ability to transfer torque from one wheel in case of loss of traction on that wheel.  The pros of all-wheel drive are that it provides increased grip and control under all road conditions.  It also gives sportier handling and traction to a broader range of cars.  The best pro is that it works all the time!

Another feature great for winter driving is an engine block heater.  A block heater warms the engine to increase the chances that the engine will start as well as warm up the vehicle faster in extremely cold weather.  The most common type is an electric heating element in the cylinder block, connected through a power cord which is often routed through the vehicle’s grille.  When a vehicle warms up quickly this means that the heat in the vehicle will get warmer quicker.  This all benefits you!  If it’s freezing out and you are cold this will be of great use to you!

Headlight washer/wipers are beneficial when it is sleeting or snowing.  This will allow the headlights to be more visible to other drivers as well as help you see the road better.

Heated seats 1

Heated front seats are often installed in most new models of vehicles these days.  A lot of the times they heat up a little quicker than the heat in the vehicle.  This feature also benefits the passenger as while.  The benefits of heated seats are that they can increase personal comfort during cold weather.  These are especially beneficial to people with back pain, when driving you can be comfortable.

The heated steering wheel is another great feature beneficial to the driver.  Again the steering wheel often heats up before the actual heat in the car does.  Without a heated steering wheel most drivers drive with gloves in order to keep their hands warm, this can be hazardous.

Heated side mirrors are becoming more common than ever!  They can clear themselves of fog, ice and even prevent further snow building on them!  Many cars activate them with the rear defogger, some vehicle have their own dedicated button.  Others are connected to the heated seat switch.

A wiper de-icer also known as a heated wiper park frees wipers that are frozen to the glass where they rest.

Remote Start 2

One of the best features for the winter months is remote start.  With remote start you can start your vehicle from inside your home.  This allows the vehicle to warm up so that when you are ready to leave you don’t have to get into a cold vehicle.  Warming up the engine is also good for the vehicle.

Many cars are cool but not all cars are cool and still available at a low price!  These three vehicles are the Ford Focus ST, Ford Mustang, and the Mazda Miata MX-5.  All three of these vehicles are available at the Preston Autoplex as well as Denton Ford and Pittsville Ford.

2014 Focus St

The first vehicle we are going to discuss is the 2014 Ford Focus ST.  The bold red ST badge conveys a more colorful driving experience.  Not only is the Ford Focus ST an extremely stylish vehicle but it is also very intense under the hood.  It has a turbocharged direct injection 2.0L EcoBoost engine which I paired with a six speed manual transmission.  It produces 252 horsepower and 270 lb-ft of peak torque.  The Focus ST offers unique sport suspension and high performance front and rear disc brakes.  The exterior of the Focus ST is impressive.  The prominent one piece trapezoidal grille with hexagonal mesh is a great styling feature.  The Focus ST also has integrated roof spoilers and wraparound taillamps as well as a rear bumper and lower fascia which enhances the sporty feel.  One of the features that puts the Focus ST on the list of coolest cars is the available Recaro seats!  These seats were custom designed for the Focus ST.  They have cushion tilt with length adjustment and feature a low seating position for improved ergonomics.  The 2014 Ford Focus ST has unique sport gauges made especially for it!  These add to the performance of the driving aesthetic, they monitor oil pressure and temperature.  In these gauges there are red needle pointers which give you the feel of being in a real race car!

2013 Ford Mustang

The next vehicle is the 2014 Ford Mustang.  The 2014 Ford Mustang is available in 10 different models.  The Mustang is one of the most iconic sport cars out there.  It is recognized by everyone and loved my many.  The Mustang expresses serious attitude.  The front end features a functional front air splitter.  The “hockey stick” sidelines and sharp creased power dome hood all add to the overall style of the Mustang.  Another exterior feature that is bound to impress is the glass roof.  It is a panoramic roof which gives you the convertible feel without the wind and the noise.  There is an available navigation system with SiriusXM Traffic and Travel Link.  This combines Global Positioning technology with 3-D mapping and provides voice guided turn by turn directions.  You will get detailed traffic information plus a current weather forecast, local gas stations near your locations, sports scores, theater locations and many more!    Ambient lighting is included on the V6 Premium, GT Premium and Shelby GT500.  The ambient lighting comes with the choice of seven colors purple, blue, orange, red, soft blue, green, and ice blue.  This will illuminate the footwells, cupholders and doors.  There is also a feature called MyColor which lets you select one of 125 custom colors for your instrument gauge cluster.

2014 Mazda Miata MX-5

The last vehicle to discuss is the 2014 Mazda Miata MX-5.  The Mazda MX-5 is one of the few production cars to have its own race series.  The Mazda Miata MX-5 is the perfect car for a race car enthusiast.  The Miata allows you to speak freely with its Bluetooth feature.  This is a hands-free system with voice command which makes receiving calls as easy as the push of a button.  You simply select a button on the steering wheel and say hello.  The cabin was specifically designed to revolve around you.  Mazda strategically positioned the pedals to provide quick heel and toe action and even used electromyograms and other sensors to determine the ideal location for the shift lever.  There are four difference packages to choose from on the Mazda Miata MX-5.  The first package is the convenience package this includes things such as remote keyless entry, cruise control, silver seatback bar accents, trip computer and many more.  The Premium Package features Mazda advanced keyless entry and start entry, SiriusXM Satellite Radio, anti-theft alarm and much more.  Appearance Package has a front air dam and rear underskirt.  It is not available with splash guards.  The last available package is the Suspension Package which includes Sport Tuned suspension, Bilstein shock absorbers, and limited slip differential.

Age is merely a number however, with age there can come physical hardships that make driving a littler harder.  Fortunately, todays vehicles are available with a host of features designed to help compensate for many of the physical changes that come with aging.  Lower body mobility issues such as limited knee range and leg pain are common for those over 55.  Features such as adjustable power seats, a low door threshold and adjustable pedals can help lessen or even eliminate discomfort.

Many seniors also face upper body mobility issues that can cause stiffness in the back, neck, arms or shoulders.  Adjustable lumbar support and heated seats can help soothe aching backs and shoulders.  Large wide angle mirrors and large rear windows aid visibility.   Many vehicles are now coming equipped with a rear backup camera, this also has active parallel park assistance, front and rear parking sensors which help to maneuver their vehicles without engaging in too much of the upper body twisting.

Arthritis is a common disease of aging as well.  Many younger people are even being diagnosed with arthritis.  It can result in stiff fingers and comprised fine motor skills.  A think steering wheel is easier for arthritic hands to grasp, keyless entry with push to start helps these drivers avoid potentially painful hand movements involved in inserting and twisting a key.  Other user friendly features include a heated power mirror and larger dashboard controls.

Edmunds has compiled a list of the 10 best vehicles for senior citizens.  Of these 10 vehicles, Preston Automotive group has three available on the lot today!

2014 Ford Taurus

The first vehicle is the 2014 Ford Taurus Sedan.  Preston Ford, Denton Ford and Pittsville Ford all have the 2014 Ford Taurus in stock and ready for immediate delivery!  The Ford Taurus has many senior-friendly features which include heated and power adjustable seats with lumbar support, low door threshold, thick tilt and telescoping steering wheel, keyless entry and ignition, larger dashboard controls, rear backup camera, extendable sun visors, larger audio and climate controls, high contrast instrument panel, adjustable foot pedals and many more!  Other perks of the 2014 Ford Taurus are its smooth and quiet ride, huge trunk, along with a long list of standard features and cutting edge options.

2014 Hyundai Sonata

The next vehicle that made the list is the 2014 Hyundai Sonata.  Preston Hyundai has over 20 brand new 2014 Sonata’s available for purchase!  The Sonata also has a plethora of senior friendly features such as heated seats with lumbar support, low door threshold, large audio and climate controls, large, heated, wide-angle, auto dimming and low glare power mirrors.   Not only is the Sonata senior-friendly but it also has outstanding fuel economy!  It gets up to 35 mpg highway!  There are also ample standard features and options for the money and a generous warranty.  The Hyundai Sonata also is available in the hybrid powertrain.  Preston Hyundai has over 15 brand new 2013 Hyundai Sonata Hybrids.  The Hybrids get 40 mpg highway!

2014 Mazda CX9

The final vehicle on the list is the 2014 Mazda CX-9.  Preston Mazda has the perfect CX-9 for you!  The Mazda CX-9 has seating for up to seven passengers.  Like the other two vehicles the CX-9 also has heated and power adjustable seats with lumbar support.  Also available is keyless entry with push to start ignition.  Larger dashboard controls along with larger audio and climate controls are great features.  There are also front and rear parking sensors which help you park properly without hitting any vehicles.  Other great features include a roomy cabin, easy access third row seating with room for adults and responsive steering.

The 2014 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport is assembled at the Hyundai production facility in Georgia.  The Santa Fe starts with innovation.  The Santa Fe Sport shows off the latest iteration of Hyundai’s Fluidic Sculpture design named “storm edge”.  It gives the Santa Fe Sport style that exhibits power and strength of nature.  Dynamic side character lines add to the aerodynamic flow while design elements and chrome accents on the drille and door handles create a distinctly premium feeling.  The aerodynamic design of the Santa Fe can help improve MPG.  Two types of wheels are available on the Santa Fe Sport, the standard 17 inch alloy wheels will generate plenty of traction, there is also an 18 inch alloy wheel, and if the driver really wants to step things up then the available 19 inch Hyper Silver alloy wheels can be added.

2014 Hyundai Santa Fe

The interior of the Hyundai Santa Fe is nothing less than impressive.  The passengers get the feel of luxury with the available heated rear seats, integrated sunshades and seats that slide and recline.  They also have added flexibility and functionality with their 40/20/40 split folding design.  The front seats can be ventilated and there is also an available Integrated Memory System for the seat and the side mirrors.  The premium features also include a panoramic sunroof, proximity key with electronic push button start, leather seating surfaces, leather wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, heated steering wheel and dual zone automatic temperature control with cleanair ionizer.  Other enhancements include an 8 inch touchscreen with navigation or a 4.3 touchscreen audio display.  Both options have a rearview camera so that the driver can easily see behind them while backing up.  A 550 watt infinity Logic 7 premium audio system with 12 speakers is also available for the Santa Fe.  Recent research has shown that sunlight and fresh air is extremely good for humans.  This is why the Hyundai Santa Fe can come with a panoramic sunroof which gives your more of both.

2014 Santa Fe 1

Now available on the Hyundai Santa Fe is Driver Selectable Steering Mode.  The driver can have a greater sense of control and satisfaction courtesy of Hyundai’s latest innovation.  There are three different operating modes – Comfort, Normal and Sport.  This will adapt the Santa Fe Sport’s steering characteristics to a range of different driving preferences.  Extensive computer modeling and powertrain performance mapping was used to modify engine and transmission control, giving the driver improved fuel economy up to 7% based on internal tests.  There is also available active cornering control AWD which gives the driver improved traction and greater cornering capabilities.

2014 Santa Fe 2

The 2014 Santa Fe is also one of the safest vehicles out there for purchase.  There are seven airbags in the Santa Fe including a driver’s knee airbag.  There is also electronic stability control, this uses sensors in the steering system and at each wheel to compare where you want to go with where the car is headed.  If there is a difference detected between the two then the Electronic Stability Control slows the appropriate wheel to redirect the car and help the driver keep course.    The Santa Fe also has an excellent Anti-Lock Braking System.  Emergency braking can cause the wheels of the vehicle to lock up and skid, this can result in loss of control.  The Anti-Lock Braking System helps prevent the possibility of wheel lockup under hard braking.

Preston Hyundai has a great selection of the 2014 Hyundai Santa Fe’s ready to be driven off the lot. To view our inventory please visit Preston Hyundai

For 37 years now the Ford F-150 has been America’s best-selling truck.  For 32 years the Ford F-150 has been the best-selling U.S. vehicle.  Ford has 35 million+ customers since 1948.  They have also done 10 million+ miles of testing on the Ford F-150.  The 2015 Ford F-150 has 11 new class exclusive features.   It also has 112 filed patents and special cargo box lighting.  An interesting fact about the F-150 is that 1 truck is sold every 41 seconds!

The debut of the 2015 Ford F-150 has been the talk of the town.  The 2015 F-150’s can and pickup box will be almost entirely made of various grades of aluminum!  Magnets will stick to the side of the new truck.  This all means that towing and hauling capacities which have not yet been announced can expect to be increase by roughly the body mass savings.  The body mass savings is quantified as “up to 700 pounds.”  The only major piece of the body sheet metal that is not aluminum is the Quiet Steel laminated sound absorbing firewall, aluminum can’t match its performance for hushing engine noise.

Four engines are still offered under the hood.  The entry 3.7 liter V-6 which accounts for 15% of current sales gets downsized to 3.5 liters while outperforming its predecessor in every way.  The next engine is a brand new 2.7 liter EcoBoost V-6 that is reportedly unrelated to the 3.5.  This engine features a light but tough graphite iron block and is optimized for high fuel economy for customers who do not need to tow 8000 pounds.  The 5.0 liter V-8 occupies the third engine available on the 2015 Ford F-150.  The last engine available is the 3.5 liter EcoBoost V-6.

David Wilson Sr with the all new 2015 Ford F-150

There are many excellent features that are now available in the 2015 Ford F-150.  The first being a 360 degree camera.  This feature is remarkable, it allows you to be able to see all around the vehicle from the 8 inch screen.  You can see what is infront of you or behind you without even turning around in your seat.  The F-150 also has a moonroof which is available!  A feature that is loved by most is the 110 volt / 400 watt outlet.  This lets you plug in your laptop cord or any other cord with two prongs which you normally wouldn’t be able to plug in while riding in your vehicle.

“Our objective was to find materials that allowed us to design the truck to be as tough – or tougher – than the current model, yet could help it be hundreds of pounds lighter for better capability and fuel economy,” said Pete Friedman, Ford’s manager of manufacturing research. We shouldn’t need to explain the benefits of a lighter truck (faster, stronger and more efficient).

2015 Ford F-150

The new Ford F-150 will be available in 5 trim levels. These include: XL, XLT, Lariat, Platinum, and King Ranch. “The new 2015 Ford F-150, I can tell will already become an instant best-seller at our Ford Dealerships,” says David Wilson Jr. of Preston Automotive Group, “Currently the F-150 is the number 1 truck choice in our Delaware and Maryland markets; we hope to really penetrate the truck market further with the all-new Ford truck.”

The 2015 Ford F-150 is said to be available for purchase in the fourth quarter of 2014.  Stay updated on our Facebook to find out when Preston Ford will have the 2015 Ford F-150 available or purchase.

Remote starts are excellent for cold winter days when a customer wants to get into a warm car. There are many benefits to using or installing remote starts in vehicles.

The first benefit is for comfort.  It is comforting to have a car that is warm or cool before the customer gets into the vehicle.  By leaving the heater or the air conditioning on a driver can activate the remote starter then wait several minutes for the car to warm up.  Since the vehicle is running most remote starters include controls for locking the doors to secure the car as well.

There is also a safety benefit to having a remote starter.  By allowing an icy car to warm up before driving it is easier to scrape or defrost the windows which results in greater visibility for the driver and passengers.  Warming the vehicle also melts snow and ice that can obstruct the headlights or the brake lights making the vehicle more visible to other drivers especially in snowy or icy conditions.

Remote Start 2Engine care is also a benefit to having a remote start.  Warming the vehicle before driving is beneficial for the engine.  For the heating system to start producing warm air the engine must first warm up as it runs.  Since the vehicle idles for several minutes before being driven the engine oil provides better lubrication once the driver is ready to go.  This period where the vehicle is warming up is especially beneficial for cars or truck that run off diesel however gas engines also benefit from having a remote start.

When the customer buys a vehicle with a remote start or gets one installed it will increase the resale value.  If the customer lives in an area with rough climate conditions then the remote start will have a greater resale value.  It will be an extremely useful selling point when looking for a new vehicle.

Remote Starts work by the push of a button.  From outside the vehicle press a button or two depending which kind of remote start and your ignition will start.  The vehicle will remain locked until the driver unlocks the vehicle.  The remote starter can also turn off the ignition as the customer wishes.  The brake pedal can also act as a way to turn the engine off.  Remote Starts can include a complete security system with alarm, two way alarm notification, a different frequency each time the remote is used,  and the ability to transmit up to a mile and through concrete walls.

Preston Auto Body installs remote starts in all makes and models.  They can also install leather seats, back up cameras, radios, Bluetooth, and many more items to customize the vehicle the way the customer would like it.
