We would like to thank every single person who was kind enough to participate in the Preston Automotive Go Red For Women event. For each car sold from February 5th, 2016 to February 15th, 2016, we donated $50 to AHA. We also gave out a red frog with every purchase in an effort to spread awareness for heart disease. February is celebrated as heart month and Preston Automotive Group is doing everything it can to spread awareness about this awful disease. We kicked off this fantastic event February 5th when our staff broke out our finest red outfits for National Wear Red Day to show the world that we stand with Go Red For Women. Between Preston Ford, Preston Nissan, Preston Mazda, and Preston Hyundai the Autoplex was filled to the brim with red. We were so excited to show the American Heart Association what everyone else already knows, that Preston cares! If you smoke, for instance, you should probably stop because non-smokers are a lot less likely to get heart disease. Governor Hogan Declares the State of Emergengy in Anticipation of Winter Storm Jonas With the impending arrival of significant snowfall, Maryland Governor, Larry Hogan, has officially declared a state of emergency effective January 22 through Saturday, January 23. The state of emergency came in advance of this major snowstorm (Winter Storm Jonas) that has been forecasted to hit the Mid-Atlantic region this weekend. Heavy snowfall is predicted to arrive over the weekend to Philadelphia and maybe further north. Governors in North Carolina and Virginia and they mayor of the District of Columbia have also declared emergencies. The National Weather Service said Wednesday that 12 to 16 inches of snow could come down between Friday night and Sunday morning. More than 50 million people could be affected by the “potentially paralyzing storm”, National Weather Service Director Louis Uccellini said on a call with reporters on Thursday evening. Know the Difference: Winter Storm Outlook - Winter storm conditions are possible in the next 2 to 5 days. Winter Weather Advisory - Winter weather conditions are expected to cause significant inconveniences and may be hazardous. When caution is used, these situations should not be life threatening. Winter Storm Watch - Winter storm conditions are possible within the next 36 to 48 hours. People in a watch area should review their winter storm plans and stay informed about weather conditions. Winter Storm Warning - Life-threatening, severe winter conditions have begun or will begin within 24 hours. People in a warning area should take precautions immediately. What does a “State of Emergency” mean? States of emergencies have been declared to allow officials to coordinate and request emergency resources and support. A state of emergency also allows the Governor to access certain resources, like the National Guard, to increase the State’s response. Monday, December 21st, the US Congress passed the PATH Act that expands the Section 179 deduction limit thru December 31 st 2015.  This has quickly become a huge deal for local businesses big and small. It gives them the ability to write-off 100% of equipment purchases, including vehicles for business use, up to $500,000. In addition to the increased limit of $500,000, Section 179 deduction will also reinstate the 50% Bonus Depreciation. The bill is a one-year, retroactive extension of the tax breaks, even though it only last through the end of this month. Only this 2015 tax year will be covered by the measure and therefore it is a good business decision for many to buy/finance equipment, such as new vehicle purchases from Preston Ford Commercial Trucks, immediately to make the December 31, 2015 cutoff for the write-off provisions. “We are excited to hear that the Section 179 deduction has been expanded,” says Dave Wilson Sr., President of Preston Ford and Preston Automotive Group, “Not only will our Ford Commercial Truck customers and buyers be able to take advantage of the expansion but we as a business will be able to as well.” Preston Ford’s Business Preferred Network Commercial Truck Department has seen a large increase of businesses buying new commercial Ford vehicles since the bill was passed. Ford Motor Company: Top Vehicle in 2015 - F series When it comes to the Top Vehicles of 2015, the winner is the best selling and most profitable Ford: The Ford F series. Loaded models like the 2016 Ford F-150 Limited were some of the biggest contributors to Fords “Bottom Line” in 2015. The F series is Americas best-selling vehicle lineup. Why is it Fords “Best Vehicle” Ford investors don’t consider fuel efficiency, towing capacity or packages when it comes to considering what the “best vehicle is.” It’s all and only about profit. Even though we don’t know the exact profits of the F series because Ford obviously keeps that a close secret we can only safely assume that no Ford vehicles come close to generating as much profit as the 2015 North American Truck of the Year. Even with the Ford Motor Company halting sales last year they were still able to sell an impressive 753,851 F-series trucks in the US, making it American’s best seller! Currently, through November Ford sales were up 2.3%. Best Seller and Most Profitable Of course, the sheer number of sales makes the F series a big deal.But to become Fords Top Vehicle, the investors at Ford are looking for profit. The average transition price for an F-Series truck in November was $42,800. That's up $2,700 from a year ago. Low-interest rates, cheaper gas prices, and longer terms loans available all played a role in that increase. We're sure the redesign for the 2015 model year had a little to do with it has well. Customers are looking for Luxury Vehicles The Ford motor company is really good at enticing customers to purchase features on the F series that were unheard of in a pickup truck 25 years ago. Ford more or less invented the idea of a luxury pickup with its first King Ranch model in 2001. General Motor and Chrysler have since followed suit, but nothing compares to the Ford F-series. The F-series isn’t just America’s best-selling vehicle, its Americans best-seller over $50,000, too. So to sum this all up, given its huge sales volumes and likely profit margins, the F-series is, without a doubt, the biggest and best of the Ford lineup in North America — and North America is the most profitable market region.

Apple is working on designs for a car that will drive itself. Local officials say engineers for the mega-giant Apple recently investigated GoMentum Station Automotive testing facility that's used as a testing ground for self-driving cars and the other high-tech vehicles. The station located in the San Fransisco City of Concord once was a naval base until around 1994. Of course, we all know that Apple is best known for the every so popular iPhones and Mac computers. But, could we get to know this tech company as an automotive company? Only time will tell. GoMentum Station has been used as a vehicle test facility for many automakers. It is a very secure facility that doesn't offer access to the public. GoMentum is about 40 miles North of Silicon Valley. Concord Naval Weapon Station, California. Self-driving cars may still sound like the stuff of science fiction, but Russ Rader, Insurance Institute for Highway Safety senior VP of communications, told Investopedia in 2014 the technology has been creeping into car manufacturing models for several years now. “Its got all the infrastructure of a city,” Jack Hall, the program manager at GoMentum Station. “There are buildings, streets and intersections, but no people.” The 5,000-acre site has 20 miles of paved roads, including overpasses, tunnels and railroad crossings, according to the agency’s website, which calls it “the largest secure test facility in the world.” Apple is believed to have paired with Fiat-Chrysler (FCA) as a potential partner, likely thatFCA would provide the car body and some or all of the powertrain. Project Titan is what Apple executive's had been calling it, and the project is all but confirmed. It has also been reported that Googles’s self-driving car software and systems will most likely be ready to market by 2017. So even if the project is further along than previously thought, it seems highly unlikely that Apple will beat Google in the race for the 1st self-driving car.

Join the Preston Automotive Group in celebrating Car Care Awareness Month!  If you think about it, your vehicle is probably your second largest investment (second to your house if you own one).  If you have a vehicle you probably use it to drive to work every day, transport the kids to their activities, and get you to and from various other places, right?  And if it broke down or started to work improperly, then you might be in kind of a pickle, right?  Well, the goal of Car Care Awareness Month is to make sure people know how they should be taking care of their vehicle. Last year during Nationwide Car Care Inspections, 84% failed at least one component of the inspection.  That means nearly every one of these drivers were potentially driving around in an unsafe vehicle.  Now, that number could be reflecting failures such as faulty taillights, low washer fluid, or some other small issue, but nonetheless it is a safety hazard if it causes your vehicle to fail an inspection.  There are all kinds of numbers that would scare you such as nearly 1 in 5 vehicles needed a new air filter, or 13% had the “check engine” light on.  But here’s the bottom line: most people don’t know what kind of regular maintenance should be completed on a car at each specific milestone. Another part of Car Care Awareness’ mission is to give you the knowledge so you can detect small issues early before they turn into big problems.  Neglected vehicle care almost always means higher costs down the line.  The results found by carcare.org show that the majority of vehicle owners could save a substantial amount of money by being proactive in their vehicle maintenance. So, our goal this month, alongside the Car Care Council, will be to inform you of the best way to look after one of your largest investments.  Whether you have a new or pre-owned vehicle, there are certain steps and precautions to take, and that is what we will be highlighting all month long!
