Preston Automotive Group is proud is announce that it will be honored as a community partner of the American Cancer Society at their Colors of Cancer banquet, which will be held April 2, 2016 at the Tred Avon Yacht Club in Oxford, Maryland. Come join us and do your part to inspire hope in the fight against cancer. A whole night of incredible activities is planned, and we’re hoping to see you there! Hors d'oeuvres and cocktails from a cash bar will be served first at this high-class affair, starting around 6:30 pm. Some of the activities for the guests will be a prize-filled balloon, a 50/50 raffle, a chance to win a 2017 Mercedes-Benz GLA SUV, and a silent auction. There will be a number of fabulous prizes at the silent auction, including a sterling silver “Dancing Clef” 6mm blue topaz pendant, donated by Steve Shearer of Shearer the Jeweler. It is absolutely beautiful and is just one of the many prizes you’ll find at the auction. The meal begins at 7:30, where guests will sit and enjoy the delicious cuisine. Once 8 o’clock rolls around, the honorees will be presented with their awards; including ourselves, Michele Williams, and Patricia Plaskon. Brent Spurry and “Big” Don O’Brien will be serving as honorary chairs for the event, as they were selected by the Colors of Cancer Hometown Heroes Gala Committee for 2016. After dinner, we will wind down the evening with coffee and some delectable desserts, such as the now famous Colors of Cancer cupcake bar. We would like to thank not only the American Cancer Society for this honor, but also all the sponsors that made it happen. If you would like to attend this event, individual tickets are available for $75 per person and it costs $1,000 for a table of ten. It will be open seating and the price of the ticket includes hors d'oeuvres, seated meal, desserts and non-alcoholic beverages. This event usually sells out, so act fast if you hope to attend! The weather has been unpredictable lately.  Rain turns to sleet, then snow, then it freezes; even a blizzard made its way through town. There really is no guessing what situations we might get caught in.  Mazda thought of a solution.  Their scenario, “It’s not an everyday occurrence, but there comes a time for every driver when they’re stopped at an intersection on a slippery incline and can’t seem to get enough sure traction to safely pull away.” With this, they introduced the i-ACTIV all-wheel-drive system.  Mazda is calling it “predictive” meaning it can determine exactly when and how to engage the AWD system before the driver even touches the accelerator and instantly when the wheels start to slip. Sensors on the vehicles scan for data, such as temperature, vehicle angle, yaw, steering direction, antilock brake activation and wind-shield wiper use.  The AWD controller then uses this information to determine road and weather conditions. Just 1% wheel slippage will fully engage the AWD. The Mazda CX-5 with i-ACTIV AWD was tested on a frozen test track.  Results showed that the AWD system on the Mazda proved near-equal to that of the time-tested AWD system in a Subaru Forester.  If fact, the Mazda beat the competition during one test.  The i-ACTIV system allows rear-wheel engagement even when the front wheels are turned.  This allows for extra traction when on an incline and needing to turn. This system is offered on the Mazda CX-3 and CX-5, as well as the 2016 CX-9 coming this spring.  Mazda says i-ACTIV causes no fuel-economy penalty and is no more expensive or complex than any other AWD system on the market. Governor Hogan Declares the State of Emergengy in Anticipation of Winter Storm Jonas With the impending arrival of significant snowfall, Maryland Governor, Larry Hogan, has officially declared a state of emergency effective January 22 through Saturday, January 23. The state of emergency came in advance of this major snowstorm (Winter Storm Jonas) that has been forecasted to hit the Mid-Atlantic region this weekend. Heavy snowfall is predicted to arrive over the weekend to Philadelphia and maybe further north. Governors in North Carolina and Virginia and they mayor of the District of Columbia have also declared emergencies. The National Weather Service said Wednesday that 12 to 16 inches of snow could come down between Friday night and Sunday morning. More than 50 million people could be affected by the “potentially paralyzing storm”, National Weather Service Director Louis Uccellini said on a call with reporters on Thursday evening. Know the Difference: Winter Storm Outlook - Winter storm conditions are possible in the next 2 to 5 days. Winter Weather Advisory - Winter weather conditions are expected to cause significant inconveniences and may be hazardous. When caution is used, these situations should not be life threatening. Winter Storm Watch - Winter storm conditions are possible within the next 36 to 48 hours. People in a watch area should review their winter storm plans and stay informed about weather conditions. Winter Storm Warning - Life-threatening, severe winter conditions have begun or will begin within 24 hours. People in a warning area should take precautions immediately. What does a “State of Emergency” mean? States of emergencies have been declared to allow officials to coordinate and request emergency resources and support. A state of emergency also allows the Governor to access certain resources, like the National Guard, to increase the State’s response. Preston Automotive is proud to have two manufacturers make the list of finalist this year. The Mazda MX-5 Miata took the nomination for the North American Car of the Year, and the Nissan Titan XD has been named a finalist for the North American Truck of the Year. Today at the Detroit auto show the Automotive Press Association announced that five out of six finalists are import vehicles. This group of finalist ties the 2012 group of the finalist for the second-highest number of imports at five. The group of finalist are chosen from a very short list of ten cars and 12 pickups, crossovers and SUVs created by a jury of 53 automotive journalists. The Mazda Miata beat out an impressive list of competitors for this distinguished honor, including the BMW 7 Series, Cadillac C76, Chevy Camaro, Chevy Volt, Kia Optima and Toyota Prius. This legendary two-seater has a 155-hp 2.0-liter four-cylinder with a six-speed manual; a six-speed automatic is optional. Its use of aluminum keeps weight down, so the Miata remains eminently fun in the twists and turns that you’ll seek out whenever you hit the road. The all-new 2016 Nissan Titan XD hasn’t even hit the ground at Preston Nissan, but it should be available within the next month. The Titan took the votes from the Honda CR-V, Kia Sorento, Lexus RX, Telsa Model X and Toyota Tacoma. The 2016 Titan XD will use a fortified version of the beefy, fully boxed frame that carries the current Titan. The Titan will be able to handle a payload rating in the excess or 2000 and max towing of 12,000 pounds. The Titan was also a finalist in 2004. Vehicles must be new or significantly altered to be eligible to become a North America Car or Truck of the year. Judges are looking for a flawless design and a superior driver satisfaction rating among many other things. The Volkswagen Golf and Ford F-150 were named 2015 Car and Truck of the Year. Ford least all automakers with ten wins since the awards inception in 1994. Chrysler, Nissan, and Hyundai have won multiple awards. Paint the Plex Pink will be held on October 17 th and it is all about raising Awareness for Breast Cancer. As you know, October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, so Preston Automotive is gearing up for a fun month and exciting day. Our sales consultants are wearing pink all month, so we encourage those of you coming to the event to do the same! The Paint the Plex Pink event will feature good food, kid’s activities, games, music, a special appearance by the Preston Frog, and of course the Preston “Drive to Inspire” Pink F-250 Truck. You will be able sign the truck to show your support for Breast Cancer Research. This event will only be going on between 1 and 4pm on Saturday the 17th, so if you’re going to be home with the kids, make sure you come out for this FREE event! Two years ago we had a fantastic turn out and we hope to replicate that this year. Some of the guys shaved their heads to show they were United for a Cure with those who had lost their hair due to the chemotherapy treatments associated with breast cancer. You certainly don’t have to do something that extreme, but just coming out for an hour or two will show just how much you care about this horrible disease - breast cancer. You’re almost out of time to figure out what your kids are being for Halloween! The Preston Automotive Group, along with local businesses, present Trunk or Treat 2015. Two of our locations will be hosting Trunk or Treat Events this October. First is Preston Hyundai’s Trunk or Treat on October 24th from 1-3pm. This is where the tradition first started and it has gotten better each and every year since then. If you can’t make it on that date (or if your kids just want double the candy), then be sure to be at Cambridge Auto Body on Halloween Day, October 31st from 11-1pm. At Preston Hyundai we will have the showroom decorated for Halloween, complete with skeletons, sales consultants in costumes and candy — tons of candy! We have invited local businesses to decorate our cars and SUVs and hand out candy out of the trunks of our cars in the spirit of Halloween. So, each business will have representatives handing out candy and freebies! We will also have prizes for the best costume as well as a special appearance by the Preston Frog! And if you can only make it to the Cambridge Auto Body Trunk or Treat then it will still be a good warm up for the kids being the day of Halloween. This way the kids can get more use out of that expensive costume you bought them! The King of the Plex has been going on all month long and the SUVs think they have a chance to be Kings — or Queens if you will. We compared the three top import SUVs on the Preston Autoplex in our latest episode of the King of the Plex. From Hyundai we had the 2016 Santa Fe, from Mazda we had the 2016 CX-5 and from Nissan we looked at the 2015 Murano. Which one would win your comparison test? The 2016 Mazda CX-5 Sport comes with a choice of two powertrains: A 2.0L 4-cylinder engine paired with a six-speed manual tranny, or a 2.5L 4-cylinder with a six-speed automatic tranny. New options this year include adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, LED headlights and more! There have been other improvements made to ensure the 2016 CX-5 dominates the SUV class. The CX-5 interior is attractive, modern and functional. The 7-inch touchscreen and multifunction control knob make it one of the best systems out there. Some other features on the 2016 Mazda CX-5 are available on the Grand Touring with the i-Active Sense package. Those include adaptive cruise control — which will match your speed to that of the car in front of you — Smart Brake Support, lane departure warning and automatic high beam control. 2015 Nissan Murano The Nissan Murano has been completely redesigned for the 2015 model year. That means a new front fascia, new interior stylings and more! The 2015 Nissan Murano is offered in four trim levels: S, SV, SL and Platinum. Powering the 2015 Nissan Murano is a 3.5-liter V6 engine that produces 260 horsepower. With either configuration, all-wheel or front-wheel drive, you will get 21 mpg in the city and 28 on the highway, which is better than what you’d get from most other competing SUVs! On the inside there have been some serious adjustments made. The seats might not be the first thing you notice when you hop in the Murano, but they will leave a lasting impression. Nissan calls them " Zero Gravity " seats because they are designed to contour to the position the body assumes in zero gravity. The King of the Plex competition pits Preston Hyundai, Preston Mazda and Preston Nissan against each other in a little friendly competition during the month of September! While Preston Ford begins their quest to be a Top 100 Ford Dealer again, Preston Hyundai, Nissan and Mazda will be challenging each other to see which dealership can have the most new car sales. Preston Nissan and the 2015 Altima There’s no better way to say it: The 2015 Nissan Altima is a “just right” sedan for anybody in the market.  It has raked in several awards including a 2015 IIHS Top Safety Pick, Best Sedan Under $25,000 by KBB and a 2015 Most Popular Midsize Car by Edmunds. In Edmunds testing, an automatic Mazda6 went from 0-60 in a mere 7.6 seconds, which is faster than anyone in the midsize class. The cockpit of this car features all sorts of technology. Not only is there a 7-inch touchscreen available, but it will actually protrude up out of the dash. Another feature they’ve created is the heads up display for your MPH. In essence, a mirror will pop up above the steering wheel and reflect your MPH into your field of view.
