Governor Hogan Declares the State of Emergengy in Anticipation of Winter Storm Jonas With the impending arrival of significant snowfall, Maryland Governor, Larry Hogan, has officially declared a state of emergency effective January 22 through Saturday, January 23. The state of emergency came in advance of this major snowstorm (Winter Storm Jonas) that has been forecasted to hit the Mid-Atlantic region this weekend. Heavy snowfall is predicted to arrive over the weekend to Philadelphia and maybe further north. Governors in North Carolina and Virginia and they mayor of the District of Columbia have also declared emergencies. The National Weather Service said Wednesday that 12 to 16 inches of snow could come down between Friday night and Sunday morning. More than 50 million people could be affected by the “potentially paralyzing storm”, National Weather Service Director Louis Uccellini said on a call with reporters on Thursday evening. Know the Difference: Winter Storm Outlook - Winter storm conditions are possible in the next 2 to 5 days. Winter Weather Advisory - Winter weather conditions are expected to cause significant inconveniences and may be hazardous. When caution is used, these situations should not be life threatening. Winter Storm Watch - Winter storm conditions are possible within the next 36 to 48 hours. People in a watch area should review their winter storm plans and stay informed about weather conditions. Winter Storm Warning - Life-threatening, severe winter conditions have begun or will begin within 24 hours. People in a warning area should take precautions immediately. What does a “State of Emergency” mean? States of emergencies have been declared to allow officials to coordinate and request emergency resources and support. A state of emergency also allows the Governor to access certain resources, like the National Guard, to increase the State’s response. Monday, December 21st, the US Congress passed the PATH Act that expands the Section 179 deduction limit thru December 31 st 2015.  This has quickly become a huge deal for local businesses big and small. It gives them the ability to write-off 100% of equipment purchases, including vehicles for business use, up to $500,000. In addition to the increased limit of $500,000, Section 179 deduction will also reinstate the 50% Bonus Depreciation. The bill is a one-year, retroactive extension of the tax breaks, even though it only last through the end of this month. Only this 2015 tax year will be covered by the measure and therefore it is a good business decision for many to buy/finance equipment, such as new vehicle purchases from Preston Ford Commercial Trucks, immediately to make the December 31, 2015 cutoff for the write-off provisions. “We are excited to hear that the Section 179 deduction has been expanded,” says Dave Wilson Sr., President of Preston Ford and Preston Automotive Group, “Not only will our Ford Commercial Truck customers and buyers be able to take advantage of the expansion but we as a business will be able to as well.” Preston Ford’s Business Preferred Network Commercial Truck Department has seen a large increase of businesses buying new commercial Ford vehicles since the bill was passed. What’s New For 2016 The 2016 Nissan Altima has undergone what Nissan officials are calling “one of the most extensive midcycle makeovers in Nissan history.” What would have called for a minor tweaking of the front fascia and restyling the taillights has recently evolved into much more. With other vehicles in the Altima’s class undergoing redesigns this year, the Altima does the same and only three years after its last full redesign none-the-less. Some are calling the 2016 Altima The Maxima’s Mini-me with the redo of the front fascia, headlights, taillights, reshaped hood and fenders, refreshed wheel designs and much more! Performance The 2016 Altima will retain its two engine choices, the 2.5-liter four-cylinder and 3.5-liter V6. Both are paired solely with the Continuously Variable Automatic Transmission (CVT). The V6 is good for 270 horsepower and the smaller choice puts out 182 hp. The fuel-economy estimates stand at 27 mpg in the city and 39 on the highway for the smaller engine and 22/32 for the larger V6 — same as 2015. Interior The cabin is the quietest the Altima has ever been. Nissan brought in premium materials to create a serene cabin full of technology. The redesigned center stack has a more ergonomic layout, giving you easier access to all the controls including the available 8-inch touchscreen. Currently, through November Ford sales were up 2.3%. Best Seller and Most Profitable Of course, the sheer number of sales makes the F series a big deal.But to become Fords Top Vehicle, the investors at Ford are looking for profit. The average transition price for an F-Series truck in November was $42,800. That's up $2,700 from a year ago. Low-interest rates, cheaper gas prices, and longer terms loans available all played a role in that increase. We're sure the redesign for the 2015 model year had a little to do with it has well. Customers are looking for Luxury Vehicles The Ford motor company is really good at enticing customers to purchase features on the F series that were unheard of in a pickup truck 25 years ago. Ford more or less invented the idea of a luxury pickup with its first King Ranch model in 2001. General Motor and Chrysler have since followed suit, but nothing compares to the Ford F-series. The Mazda MX-5 Miata took the nomination for the North American Car of the Year, and the Nissan Titan XD has been named a finalist for the North American Truck of the Year. Today at the Detroit auto show the Automotive Press Association announced that five out of six finalists are import vehicles. This group of finalist ties the 2012 group of the finalist for the second-highest number of imports at five. The group of finalist are chosen from a very short list of ten cars and 12 pickups, crossovers and SUVs created by a jury of 53 automotive journalists. The Mazda Miata beat out an impressive list of competitors for this distinguished honor, including the BMW 7 Series, Cadillac C76, Chevy Camaro, Chevy Volt, Kia Optima and Toyota Prius. This legendary two-seater has a 155-hp 2.0-liter four-cylinder with a six-speed manual; a six-speed automatic is optional. Its use of aluminum keeps weight down, so the Miata remains eminently fun in the twists and turns that you’ll seek out whenever you hit the road. The all-new 2016 Nissan Titan XD hasn’t even hit the ground at Preston Nissan, but it should be available within the next month. The Titan took the votes from the Honda CR-V, Kia Sorento, Lexus RX, Telsa Model X and Toyota Tacoma. The 2016 Titan XD will use a fortified version of the beefy, fully boxed frame that carries the current Titan. The Titan will be able to handle a payload rating in the excess or 2000 and max towing of 12,000 pounds. The Titan was also a finalist in 2004. Twenty years ago on Thanksgiving George Jackson of American Corner had an idea for a way to honor troops over seas. He was watching the news early in the morning and saw interviews with the American Troops in Germany who were readying themselves to go into Bosnia. He had a roll of paper and he thought ‘I’m going to see if they want to join me in writing on it and get it over to the troops because they will be leaving their families right before Christmas.’ That first scroll ended up being the length of a football field with messages from people all over the Delmarva area. This is the idea that has led to George’s legendary scrolls. He has sent his scrolls all over the world including Spain, Italy, Bosnia, Bases in Africa, Honduras and even the North Pole! The Coast Guard has a base near the North Pole and George even received a picture of those members holding his stretched-out, 419-foot scroll in front of one of the largest ice cutting ship in the world. He said that was an especially proud moment for him and that getting those pictures is what keeps his drive alive to carry on with this project. Ever since he started, he has been all over Delaware, Maryland and Virginia lugging his heavy scrolls of paper to various events such as car shows, parades, malls and more. He is known quite well around the area and he has just announced that he will be at the new Millsboro Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram on Friday, November 13th with his scrolls in hopes of getting some filled up to send for Thanksgiving and Christmas this year. These scrolls are appreciated by all the military personnel who receive them and if you don’t believe us then George will have tons of stories for you that will make you believe in what he is doing. So, from 11AM-5PM on Friday, November 13th, George Jackson will be at Millsboro CDJR celebrating 20 years of his scrolls. Fiat Chrysler Automobile (FCA) brands Jeep and Dodge have had strong sales numbers recently and those numbers have continued according new numbers released by FCA US. They have maintained year-over-year monthly growth for 67 straight months. That means their 2015 October numbers beat their 2014 October numbers and their 2015 September numbers beat their 2014 September numbers and so on for the past 67 months. That is incredible growth for some of the most reputable auto brands in the US. Some of those brands include Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep and Ram, which we now sell right here in Millsboro, Delaware. More data from FCA US suggests that Jeeps continue to be the best selling of the four brands, selling 73,561 units last month nationwide.
