This month Ford was the most talked about brand throughout social media, this widened its lead in overall online discussions even further!  Last month Ford was talked about on the web about 1.3 million times! More and more people have started the tradition of naming their vehicles.  It gives the vehicle a personal touch just like you name your dogs and cats, naming your car is now being seen as normal!  Considering how much time we spend with our cars it’s no wonder that we bond with them and care about them.  By personalizing them this makes the car feel like a trusted old friend so it makes sense to name them. According to a survey taken women are more likely to name their car than men and women also usually drive with greater care and consideration.  It has also been proven that people who are emotionally attached to their cars tend to look after them better than those who are not attached.  Many people also seem to feel that by naming their cars they can communicate with them and even negotiate or please with them to keep going if they are getting ready to break down.  According to another survey people tend to give their cars a name of the opposite sex, 81% of men give their car a female name and 91% of women refer to their car as masculine. Nationwide Insurance has named October 2 it’s “National Name your Car Day”.  This holiday gave Nationwide an excuse to poll more than 1,000 U.S. car owners.  This poll found that close to 25 percent of the respondents have a name for their car.  Car owners between the age of 18-34 were more likely to name their cars! The most popular car names are Beast, Bullet, Bat Mobile, and Big Red.  Also don’t forget that many cars that are featured in movies have also been named!  The movie Dukes of Hazzard has the General Lee, Kitt from Knight Rider, Batmobile from Batman, Bumblebee from Transformers, Ecto-1 from Ghostbusters and of course Herbie from The Love Bug!  The Batmobile in Batman was originally a Lincoln Futura concept car that was later made into the Batmobile! Mazda has partnered with four national charities to help provide for those in need this holiday season.  These include,  St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, American Red Cross, American Heart Association and Mazda Foundation for its charitable giving campaign.  For every new Mazda sold during the Mazda Drive for Good campaign, Mazda will donate $100 to one of those four national charities as selected by the new Mazda owner.  Also for every Mazda vehicle that is test driven the Mazda Drive For Good campaign will donate one hour of charitable service from its employees and dealers across the nation which will begin in the 2014 calendar year. The campaign will run through January 2, 2014.  In addition to the four national charities The Mazda Dealer Marketing Groups around the nation also have the opportunity to select a fifth local charity that enables the new Mazda owners to select a charity option closer to home! St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital is leading the way the world understands, treats and defeats childhood cancer and many other deadly diseases.  St. Jude has the world’s best survival rates for the most aggressive childhood cancers!  Treatments invented at St. Jude have helped push the overall childhood cancer survival rate from 20 percent to 80 percent since they first opened over 50 years ago!  This is incredible!  St Jude is currently working to drive the overall survival rate for childhood cancer to 90 percent in the next decade! America Red Cross shelters, feeds and provides emotional support to victims of disasters, supplies about 40 percent of the nation’s blood, teaches skills to save lives, provides international humanitarian aid and supports military members and their families.  The Red Cross is a non-profit organization that depends on volunteers and the generosity of the American public to perform its missions. The American Heart Association is devoted to saving people from heart disease and stroke.  Heart disease and stroke are America’s number one and number four killers.  They pair with millions of volunteers to fund innovative research, fight for stronger public health policies, and provide lifesaving tools and information to prevent and treat these two diseases. The Mazda Foundation is the corporate foundation of Mazda North America Operations, it has awarded over $8 million to worthwhile causes across the United States since its initial grants in 1992. Forbes has put out a list of the best car for first time drivers!  Many of the vehicles on this list are available at the Preston Autoplex! The Preston Automotive Group has a lot of current events going on!  The Preston Autoplex is hosting an event this Saturday December 7, 2013 starting at noon!  The event is a raffle for a Ford Raptor to support the McKenzie Travis Educational Foundation.  There will also be multiple drawings for eight $2500 cash prizes!! Santa will also be present from 11:00 a.m. to 1 p.m. Stop by the Preston Autoplex to get your picture taken with Santa! A Toy for Tots dropoff will be present at Denton Ford, Cambridge Auto Body and Preston Auto Body.  Bring by your toys to any of these locations and young children will get these toys for the holidays!  At the Preston Autoplex there will be a Bears that Care Toy Drive hosted by the Maryland State Police.  In 2012 The Bears that Care Toy Drive held by the Maryland State Police helped over 150 families and 450 children to have a better holiday!  This is amazing!  Not only did the toy drive serve local families but it also donated toys to the Easton Memorial Pediatric ward and to local churches!  The Preston Autoplex wants to help as much as we can to give children a better holiday.  Drop your toys of and help the local families! He has hand drawn characters on the large windows of the Hyundai building in preparation.  One of the windows has a drawing of The Grinch coming out of a chimney, on the door is a huge Santa Clause drinking a coke, and the last drawing so far is Hermey from Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer!  Hermey is from the island of misfit toys! Being an environmentally  friendly car is becoming a huge buying feature when looking for a new or pre-owned vehicle.  Of the top 30 environmentally friendly vehicles reported by msn Autos,  8 of these vehicles we have at the Preston Autoplex!  High gas prices combined with consumers become familiar with alternative powertrain technology is increasing interests in hybrids and flexible fuels.  Among the eight vehicles listed which are available at the Autoplex are the Ford Focus, Ford Focus Wagon, Hyundai Accent, Hyundai Elantra, Mazda3, Mazda MX-5 Miata, and the Nissan Sentra!  Ford alone had six vehicles on the list among the 30. Kelly Blue Book made a list of the ten best green cars and number 10 on the list was the Lincoln MKZ! The Lincoln MKZ is a luxury car with a base price of around $35,000.  Kelly Blue Book describes the car as possessing the latest cutting edge technology including an infotainment system and keyless entry! Another car that also made the list was the Ford C-Max Hybrid! Large tax breaks for many buyers looking for commercial vehicles will expire at the end of this year.  Now is the time to buy a commercial vehicle especially if you own your own business!  The tax breaks which is a part of federal stimulus legislation spurred by the recession will dramatically front load the depreciation schedules for many large assets including vehicles of more than 6,000 pounds which includes many heavy-duty pickups. The tax breaks available this year can mean first year depreciation of as much as $46,000 on a $60,000 heavy duty pickup if a customer purchases before December 31 st of 2013.  This extra depreciation can reduce business tax bills by lowering taxable income.  This deduction under Section 179 of the federal tax code applies to businesses that buy or lease 2 million or less worth of equipment in 2013.  Most vehicles of more than 6,000 pounds that’s are used for business are eligible for 100 percent of the depreciation.  However any vehicle used for commercial purchases can qualify for some benefits. The Preston Automotive Group is honored to join with the McKenzie Travis Educational Foundation in a raffle to raise money for their scholarship fund.  McKenzie was killed in a car accident in 2006 when she was just 19.  The scholarship fund is an opportunity to keep McKenzie’s memory alive in a way that has great meaning the family.  From the age of two, McKenzie was involved in softball, over a ten year span she plated recreationally and competitively as well as for Newark High School.  McKenzie was a good student and accomplished athlete.  The scholarship is awarded to outstanding female athletes to support their collegiate endeavors.  Through December of 2012 the McKenzie Travis Foundation has awarded over 102 scholarships with a total amount of $248,500.  Selection is based on academic and athletic abilities along with a large part of the selection process based on community involvement and an essay the students must write. This year at the Delaware Invitational Tournaments the McKenzie Travis Foundation gave 28 students a scholarship of $2,500 each for a total of $70,000!
