Winter Storm and MD State Of Emergency

Governor Hogan Declares the State of Emergengy in Anticipation of Winter Storm Jonas With the impending arrival of significant snowfall, Maryland Governor, Larry Hogan, has officially declared a state of emergency effective January 22 through Saturday, January 23. The state of emergency came in advance of this major snowstorm (Winter Storm Jonas) that has been forecasted to hit the Mid-Atlantic region this weekend. Heavy snowfall is predicted to arrive over the weekend to Philadelphia and maybe further north. Governors in North Carolina and Virginia and they mayor of the District of Columbia have also declared emergencies. The National Weather Service said Wednesday that 12 to 16 inches of snow could come down between Friday night and Sunday morning. More than 50 million people could be affected by the “potentially paralyzing storm”, National Weather Service Director Louis Uccellini said on a call with reporters on Thursday evening. Know the Difference: Winter Storm Outlook - Winter storm conditions are possible in the next 2 to 5 days. Winter Weather Advisory - Winter weather conditions are expected to cause significant inconveniences and may be hazardous. When caution is used, these situations should not be life threatening. Winter Storm Watch - Winter storm conditions are possible within the next 36 to 48 hours. People in a watch area should review their winter storm plans and stay informed about weather conditions. Winter Storm Warning - Life-threatening, severe winter conditions have begun or will begin within 24 hours. People in a warning area should take precautions immediately. What does a “State of Emergency” mean? States of emergencies have been declared to allow officials to coordinate and request emergency resources and support. A state of emergency also allows the Governor to access certain resources, like the National Guard, to increase the State’s response. When a state of emergency is declared it's a good indicator that residents should remain alert and follow official orders, news stations, and weather forecasts to be informed of the situation If you are stuck and need to get your vehicle out of a snowy situation please contact our 24-Hour towing service by calling 1-888-TOWFROG.

2015 PATH Act and Section 179 Tax Break Preston Commercial Trucks

PATH Act Passes, Includes Section 179 Tax Deduction Limit Increase

Monday, December 21st, the US Congress passed the PATH Act that expands the Section 179 deduction limit thru December 31 st 2015.  This has quickly become a huge deal for local businesses big and small. It gives them the ability to write-off 100% of equipment purchases, including vehicles for business use, up to $500,000. In addition to the increased limit of $500,000, Section 179 deduction will also reinstate the 50% Bonus Depreciation. The bill is a one-year, retroactive extension of the tax breaks, even though it only last through the end of this month. Only this 2015 tax year will be covered by the measure and therefore it is a good business decision for many to buy/finance equipment, such as new vehicle purchases from Preston Ford Commercial Trucks, immediately to make the December 31, 2015 cutoff for the write-off provisions. “We are excited to hear that the Section 179 deduction has been expanded,” says Dave Wilson Sr., President of Preston Ford and Preston Automotive Group, “Not only will our Ford Commercial Truck customers and buyers be able to take advantage of the expansion but we as a business will be able to as well.” Preston Ford’s Business Preferred Network Commercial Truck Department has seen a large increase of businesses buying new commercial Ford vehicles since the bill was passed. Preston Ford, Ford Dealership of Maryland and Delaware, is currently in pursuit of becoming a Top 85 Ford Dealer in the Nation and has helped accommodate the bills passing by lowering prices on their Ford commercial vehicles and other Ford vehicles.  Preston Ford has over 1000 Ford Commercial Trucks in one location at the Preston Autoplex in Preston, MD. This tax break extension will also directly affect sales in the Preston Nissan Commercial Division.  As of now, Preston Nissan of Maryland has over 50 new commercial vehicles: The NV Cargo Van, Passenger Van and NV 200.  These vehicles are mostly left all white to make it easy for businesses to customize them with their own insignia and color scheme.  This tax deduction expansion is huge and business owners will understand that now is the perfect time for them to buy! Check out vehicles for any type of business at Preston Ford and Preston Nissan located on the same 38 acre lot in Preston, Maryland.  The Top 100 Sales Drive and the extension of this bill are both huge reasons to buy right now at Preston Ford.

Ford Motor Company: Top Vehicle in 2015 - F series

Ford Motor Company: Top Vehicle in 2015 - F series When it comes to the Top Vehicles of 2015, the winner is the best selling and most profitable Ford: The Ford F series. Loaded models like the 2016 Ford F-150 Limited were some of the biggest contributors to Fords “Bottom Line” in 2015. The F series is Americas best-selling vehicle lineup. Why is it Fords “Best Vehicle” Ford investors don’t consider fuel efficiency, towing capacity or packages when it comes to considering what the “best vehicle is.” It’s all and only about profit. Even though we don’t know the exact profits of the F series because Ford obviously keeps that a close secret we can only safely assume that no Ford vehicles come close to generating as much profit as the 2015 North American Truck of the Year. Even with the Ford Motor Company halting sales last year they were still able to sell an impressive 753,851 F-series trucks in the US, making it American’s best seller! Currently, through November Ford sales were up 2.3%. Best Seller and Most Profitable Of course, the sheer number of sales makes the F series a big deal. But to become Fords Top Vehicle, the investors at Ford are looking for profit. The average transition price for an F-Series truck in November was $42,800. That's up $2,700 from a year ago. Low-interest rates, cheaper gas prices, and longer terms loans available all played a role in that increase. We're sure the redesign for the 2015 model year had a little to do with it has well. Customers are looking for Luxury Vehicles The Ford motor company is really good at enticing customers to purchase features on the F series that were unheard of in a pickup truck 25 years ago. Ford more or less invented the idea of a luxury pickup with its first King Ranch model in 2001. General Motor and Chrysler have since followed suit, but nothing compares to the Ford F-series. The F-series isn’t just America’s best-selling vehicle, its Americans best-seller over $50,000, too. So to sum this all up, given its huge sales volumes and likely profit margins, the F-series is, without a doubt, the biggest and best of the Ford lineup in North America — and North America is the most profitable market region.

2016 Ford GT Ordering Process

If you’re excited about the 2016 Ford GT, then hold on to your seat because we just received news about the ordering process! The application process will begin in early 2016. Specific details about the process will be released closer to that date, but Raj Nair, Ford’s Global Director of Product Development, has said that anyone will be able to apply. They will however give priority to loyal Ford customers including current Ford GT owners. If you are one of those people that are in the market for one of the 2016 Ford GT’s, know these facts: They will be priced to compete with exotic sports cars including Lamborghini, Ferrari and McLaren. They will be producing them in Markham, Ontario, and will only be able to churn out about 250 per year. So yeah, this supercar is going to be super exclusive. You will be able to purchase the 2016 GT from any Ford GT Certified Dealership of your choice. Preston Ford of Maryland and Delaware will certainly be one of the few Ford GT Certified Dealers in the country. So, when it comes time to purchase, make sure you choose Preston Automotive Group. Since this car will be made with limited-production, high-cost materials, the service centers at the GT Certified Dealerships will also have to be specially certified. No need to worry about that either; we can assure you that our Service Department will be 100% GT Certified. The certification will allow us to work on all parts of the unique, mid-engined car including the carbon fiber body panels and passenger cell. This supercar will boast a 3.5L V6 EcoBoost engine outputting over 600 horsepower. Subscribe to our blog as well as our social media pages for more updates on the 2016 Ford GT. Hopefully you are just as excited as we are!

Apple Self Driving Car

Apple Manufacturing a Self-Driving Car?

Apple is working on designs for a car that will drive itself. Local officials say engineers for the mega-giant Apple recently investigated GoMentum Station Automotive testing facility that's used as a testing ground for self-driving cars and the other high-tech vehicles. The station located in the San Fransisco City of Concord once was a naval base until around 1994. Of course, we all know that Apple is best known for the every so popular iPhones and Mac computers. But, could we get to know this tech company as an automotive company? Only time will tell. GoMentum Station has been used as a vehicle test facility for many automakers. It is a very secure facility that doesn't offer access to the public. GoMentum is about 40 miles North of Silicon Valley. Concord Naval Weapon Station, California. Self-driving cars may still sound like the stuff of science fiction, but Russ Rader, Insurance Institute for Highway Safety senior VP of communications, told Investopedia in 2014 the technology has been creeping into car manufacturing models for several years now. “Its got all the infrastructure of a city,” Jack Hall, the program manager at GoMentum Station. “There are buildings, streets and intersections, but no people.” The 5,000-acre site has 20 miles of paved roads, including overpasses, tunnels and railroad crossings, according to the agency’s website, which calls it “the largest secure test facility in the world.” Apple is believed to have paired with Fiat-Chrysler (FCA) as a potential partner, likely thatFCA would provide the car body and some or all of the powertrain. Project Titan is what Apple executive's had been calling it, and the project is all but confirmed. It has also been reported that Googles’s self-driving car software and systems will most likely be ready to market by 2017. So even if the project is further along than previously thought, it seems highly unlikely that Apple will beat Google in the race for the 1st self-driving car.

Bringing My Car to College: Yes or No?

It’s that time of year again: back to school. Some are back already and some have a couple more weeks of summer vacation left. But there’s one main consideration that you have to think about: Should I bring my car to college? Of course everyone would like to have a car on campus, but is it allowed or is it practical? We’ll help you see the pro’s and con’s of whether or not you should bring your car with you. First of all, are you even allowed to have one on campus? That will depend on where you’re attending. Some will flat out not allow freshman or upperclassmen to bring a car with them. Others will allow it, but students will be required to purchase a parking pass. Typically information like this can be found on the college or university’s website, so you will want to make sure you know their policy before you get there for move-in. Cost is another important thing to think about. Many college students are on an Easy Mac and Ramen-Noodle type of budget, so gas, repairs, parking permits, and other costs are out of the question. If this is the case then maybe you should leave the car at home. If you are going to bring it make sure you have some money saved up for these unexpected costs which include parking tickets don't forget. Find out about alternative transportation options too. Many campuses will have a school-operated shuttle system. They even get creative with the names too. For instance, the University of Miami has the Hurry ‘Canes shuttles, and students at UCLA can take the BruinBus. These options can be particularly helpful in urban settings such as D.C., Baltimore, Philadelphia or New York City. So you have to weigh your options to see if it would in fact be worth it to bring your car to college. If you need it to get you to-and-from a job or your parents house, then by all means take it. But we suggest that you enjoy your college days without one of the major responsibilities of adulthood: Car ownership.

Finance vs leasing

Should I Finance or Lease My New Car?

You’ve been searching everywhere to find the right vehicle for you, and you’ve finally found it. Now comes the part where most Americans struggle, paying for it. As, many of us have been told countless times buying a car is the second most important thing you’ll likely buy next to your home. Our finance & insurance managers in the Preston Automotive Group are often asked, “Should I finance or lease my new car?” The answer depends on your current situation and what your ultimate purpose and goal for this vehicle is. Let's start with a quick survey, ask yourself the following questions: Do I have a small down payment or even no down payment? Do I take care of my vehicles, inside and out? Do I drive between 10,000 to 15,000 annually? Do I like to trade cars every 3 years or so? If you answered yes to all 4 of those questions, leasing sounds ideal for you. First and foremost, “What is leasing?” Dictionary.com defines leasing as granting the temporary possession or use of (lands, tenements, etc.) to another, usually for compensation at a fixed rate. You certainly get more car, for less money when it comes to leasing! Leasing gives your average joe the option and affordability to drive that $30,000 vehicle that would typically be out of his price range if he were to finance it. Unlike finance payments, lease payments are based on a percentage of the vehicle price. The buyer pays the difference between the base price of the vehicle and the expected value of the vehicle at lease end, often referred to as the residual value. Let's say for instance that the car you picked has a base price of $30,000. The market has suggested that the vehicle will be worth $16,000 at the end of the lease term, meaning you would only make payments on the remaining$14,000 as opposed to the $30,000. Technology is getting to be a huge factor in the decision making on whether or not to lease. With so many new innovations happening in the world of cars yearly, it's very difficult to not want the best when the best comes out. Leasing allows you to trade in your vehicle at the end of your lease term with no penalty and best of all no negative equity. As long as the lease is under the allotted pre-determined mileage and free from excessive wear and tear you will be able to walk away free and not upside down on a loan. Although you can select lease terms ranging from 12 months to 48 months, the average term for an American consumer is 36 months (3 years). Did you answer no to most or all of the survey mentioned earlier? Then the option to finance is most likely is the option for you. The best thing about financing is you are actually using someone else's money to purchase the vehicle, and once the last payment has been signed, sealed and delivered, you own the vehicle for good. The desire to customize plays a huge role in the reasoning behind financing. The vehicle is yours to modify or customize as you like. Air intakes, lift kits and sometimes window tinting are very frowned upon and could be very costly in vehicle leasing.  This goes hand and hand with wear and tear. You will not be penalized for any wear and tear on the car once you have taken ownership of it. Typically on the Eastern Shore of Maryland, the finance option is exercised 8 out of 10 times. Why is that? When asked around a majority of Preston Automotive customers stated that, “I drive too many miles and I don't have time to worry about minor wear and tear that could cost me more in the long run.” Believe it or not there are additional warranties for exceeding mileage and excessive wear and tear on a lease. When it comes to financing vs leasing, there’s no definite answer on which one you should choose. Certain things you need to consider are your budget, driving needs, lifestyle and credit history before you decide whether to buy or lease. There are plenty of auto lenders who can provide you with financing that works best for you, no matter whether you decide to buy or lease your next vehicle. If you still have questions and would like to schedule an appointment to sit down with one of our experienced finance & insurance managers, please give us a call today at 877-898-2470!

2016 model ford fusion

2016 Models at Preston Automotive Group Dealerships

It's almost 2016, well not quite, but car manufacturers are always ahead of the game. The Preston Autoplex has already seen some of the most talked about 2016 models hit the showroom floor. The Autoplex is the home of Preston Ford, Preston Hyundai, Preston Nissan and Preston Mazda. First off, Ford continues to produce the most stylish and durable mid-sized vehicles around, and the 2016 Ford Fusion is nothing short of that. The redesigned Fusion can be the perfect fit for anyone! Whether you’re wanting to impress that special someone with a night out on the town or just want to take a relaxing country drive, the 2016 Fusion could be the car for you. Providing a second to none driving experience with its responsive steering, comfortability and luxury, the 2016 Fusion has owners raving. Offering eight models ranging from the SE with a 2.4-Liter, Turbocharged engine, to the more fuel efficient Hybrid, Ford Motor Company has done it once more — providing the ultimate efficiency, durability and dependability to its drivers. Hyundai introduced the 2016 Elantra GT at the Chicago International Auto Show earlier this year.  Without a doubt, the 2016 model is one of the best-looking cars in the Hyundai lineup. The new grill, which differs from previous years, is sure to catch your eye. And who doesn't like bigger wheels? Hyundai went with the 17-inch wheels to give it a sportier feel. If you're not a fan of the hatchback styling, don't worry the 2016 Hyundai Elantra Sedan is also here. With no massive changes under the hood, the 1.8-liter and 2.0 Liter GDI engine options are still available for the taking. With the fluidic design that Hyundai owners have come to love, Hyundai has worked on the performance of the 2012 American Car of the Year. It performs better and has the necessary “oomph” to go the extra mile. The 2016 models of the Mazda 6 and Mazda CX-5 have made their presence known as well. One of the 2015 Ten Best winners has not changed much just refreshed itself. We're talking about the 2016 Mazda 6 with a new center stack that makes for an airier cabin. It also features a larger, seven-inch touch screen that has a floating-style design. Switching gears, the spacious and roomy cabin of the Mazda CX-5 makes it the family car of your dreams. Did we mention that the 2016 model CX-5 was named an IIHS Top Safety Pick Plus, when equipped with available Smart City Break Support? Bottom line: Both of these vehicles are top-notch and “can’t-go-wrong” choices! As for Nissan, one of the most anticipated models is coming this summer: The 2016 Nissan Maxima. With 300 Horsepower and a 30 MPG rating, the four-door sports car is back. Its inspiration came from the U.S Navy’s Blue Angels, with the cockpit design of their aircraft taking the lead in the wrap around design of the Maxima’s. Be sure to follow Preston Nissan on Twitter and Facebook so we can let you know when the first one hits the showroom! Inventory is moving fast so be sure to get your favorite 2016 model today! The Preston Autoplex is located on the corner of Routes 318 & 331 in Preston, Maryland.
