Starting tomorrow July 3 rd and on July 5 th if you make a donation to the Wounded Warrior Project you will receive a free oil change at either Denton Ford, Boulevard Ford in Lewes or Boulevard Ford in Georgetown. Wounded Warrior Project began when several veterans and friends were moved by the stories of the first wounded service member returning home from Afghanistan and Iraq.  These people took action to help others in need.  It was first started as a program to provide comfort items to wounded service members but it has grown into a complete rehabilitation effort to assist warriors as they transition back to civilian life.  Currently in the Wounded Warrior Project Alumni there are 51,744 members and 7,117 family members!  The term alumni indicates a mutual shared experience and denotes that the members place in the organization was earned. The Wounded Warrior Project’s mission is to empower Wounded Warriors.  Their vision is to foster the most successful, well-adjusted generation of wounded service members that the nation has ever seen.  Their purpose is to raise awareness and enlist the public’s aid for the needs of injured service members.  Also to help the injured service members and assist each other.  Their last purpose is to provide unique, direct programs and service to meet the needs of injured service members. So now it is your turn to give back to those who have fought for our independence and when you do give back you will receive a free oil change from three of the locations within Preston Automotive Group.  These three locations are Denton Ford, Boulevard Ford of Lewes and Boulevard Ford of Georgetown.  At Boulevard Ford in Lewes and Boulevard Ford in Georgetown there will also be dunk tanks!  Come out and watch some of our staff get dunked and maybe even dunk them yourself!

Friday June 6 th was National Donut Day.  National Donut Day is the first Friday in the month of June every year.  It first started in 1938 when a young military doctor was sent to a military base.  On his way to the base he stopped by a bakery and picked up 8 dozen donuts.  When he arrived at the base he began helping wounded soldiers and would give them a donut.  This is how National Donut Day first came about.  In honor of National Donut Day everyone at the Preston Autoplex got to enjoy fresh donuts from Bay Country Bakery.  To add to the excitement we decided to have a donut eating contest in our BlackFrog building.  There were three contestants and they had to eat four donuts as fast as they could.  Whoever finished first won and took home the title of “Fastest Donut Eater”. The contests were Brent “Krispy Dream” Durham, April “Dunkin’ Yourself Green, and Ricky “Hostess with the Mostess” Lynn.  They three of them sat down for a pre-contest interview.  David Wilson Jr. was kind enough to interview each one and ask them how they were going to eat the four donuts the quickest.  There were four different types of donuts they had to eat.  They could eat these four donuts in any order they wished.  The donuts were glazed, powdered, sprinkled, and marble frosting.  All three had different approaches as to which donut they would eat first.  Here is the footage from the actual contest. The winner was Brent “Krispy Dream” Durham.  He ate the donuts in 3 minutes and 22 seconds!  The second to finish was Ricky “Hostess with the Mostess” Lynn who didn’t fall far behind Brent.  He was only a bite or two behind Brent but couldn’t manage to out eat him.  In last place was April, who David says “hasn’t shown up to the competition yet”. This Saturday at the Preston Autoplex, the Preston Automotive Group with be hosting a Lincoln Driven to Give Event.  The event is starting at noon and will last until 6 p.m.  For every Lincoln vehicle that is test driven on Saturday, Lincoln will donate $20 to a charity.  The Preston Automotive Group has chosen the donations to go The Andrew McDonough B+ Foundation.  All you have to do is test drive a Lincoln!  You do not have to be in the market for a Lincoln vehicle in order to come test drive one! The Andrew McDonough B+ Foundation honors the memory of Andrew, he was a 14-year old athlete and ‘A’ student from Wilmington, Delaware.  In 2007 Andrew had just helped his team become victorious and win a state championship tournament.  In the next 48 hours Andrew went into a cardiac arrest.  His diagnosis was Leukemia.  The doctors didn’t expect him to live through the night but yet Andrew fought for 167 days.  Andrew’s family learned that his blood type was B+ which become their motor throughout the fight to “Be Positive”.  B+ reflects how Andrew lived his life and how he inspired others to do the same.  The B+ Foundation has awarded over $1.5 million in research grants and family assistance.  They have 3 objectives.  The first is to ‘Do Good’ by providing financial assistance and emotional support to families of children with cancer through The B+ Family Assistance Program.  They also want to ‘Do Good’ by funding childhood cancer research in search of cures and advancements in chemotherapy.  They have awarded grants for over $500,000 over the past two years!  The last objective is to ‘Do Good’ by spreading the B+ message and helping others “Live Like Andrew”.  To “Live Like Andrew” means to set goals and try your best, show affection, and be comfortable with yourself. After you test drive a Lincoln you can also stick around for the cake booth and food vendors.  There will also be a kickball tournament in the field by the Hyundai building.  All the proceeds from the kickball tournament will go directly to Nathan’s Story.  There will also be t-shirts for sale during this time as well!  The proceeds from the t-shirts will also go towards Nathan’s Story. The Preston Automotive Group will be hosting three more Lincoln Driven to Give events this summer!  Lincoln will again donate $20 for each Lincoln that is test driven on the day of the event.  The second event will take place on June 7th benefiting the Caroline Country Humane Society, the third is June 21st benefiting Alex's Lemonade and lastly July 19th benefiting Talbot Humane Society.  Stay tuned for more details on these other events!  All events will take place at the Preston Autoplex.

On Sunday May 4 th at the Preston Autoplex there was a March of Dimes, March for Babies event.  There were fireworks on May 3 rd which kicked off the whole event followed by the three mile walk and day of fun on Sunday! The field by Hyundai was packed on Saturday night as many came out to watch the firework show put on by Zambellis Fireworks and sponsored by the Preston Automotive Group. The event turned out to be a huge success.  Over 400 residents came out in support of the March for healthier babies.  At the Autoplex there was an abundance of people, strollers, dogs and families.  The Preston Automotive Group had a goal of raising $100,000 for the March of Dimes.  By the time the event came around they had raised over $90,000 and are still pushing to reach $100,000. The walk started off at the Preston Autoplex by the Hyundai building.  The ribbon was cut to start off the walk by Dave Wilson and Mallory, this year’s March of Dimes Ambassador.  Everyone who participated in the walk then walked by the rest of the Autoplex and into the town of Preston, they continued through town and took a left onto Williamson Street and came back to the Autoplex.  Once everyone returned there was complimentary food, funnel cakes, drinks, and entertainment.  Richard Kimball, a sales consultant at Preston Ford, was the dj for a few hours before Mike Hines and The Look took the stage!  The Preston Frog and Sherman the Shorebird also made a special appearance.  Many children had a chance to get their pictures taken with the Frog and Sherman. On May 4 th, 2014 Preston Automotive Group will be hosting their own March of Dimes event.  At the Autoplex there will be a 3 mile walk beginning at 12:00 p.m.  The walk will go through the town of Preston and continue back to the Autoplex.  Not only is there a walk for healthier babies but there will also be entertainment for the whole family.  Mike Hines and the Look will be performing and Sherman the Shorebird will also be here to greet everyone!  There will be plenty of food which is being donated by local sponsors.  Activities for the children include a jumbo slide and spin art.  There will also be fireworks at dusk on Saturday May 3 rd to kick off the March of Dimes event.  The fireworks are sponsored by Preston Automotive Group and will be put on by Zambelli Fireworks. Preston Automotive Group is sponsoring the 3 rd Annual Dance & Silent Auction where all proceeds will benefit the March of Dimes.  This is taking place on May 30 th beginning at 8:00 p.m. and ending around midnight.  The event will be held at The Milestone in Easton.  Music will be provided by the award winning DJ, Steve Moody.  There will also be over 50 silent auction items, cash bar, light refreshments, door prizes, a 50/50 raffle and a fun photo booth!  This is a casual attire event.  Tickets are $20 per person in advance and $25 per person at the door.

The 3 rd Annual Susan G. Komen Ocean City Race for the Cure took place on April 13, 2014 and was a huge success! Ocean City was “painted pink”, as many businesses entered into the contest for the best pink decorations.  There were many fun events all weekend!  Seacrets held a celebration party on Friday, Skate for the Cure took place at The Carousel on Saturday and Planet Maze was only $15 for two hours of unlimited fun!  The event also included a timed 5k with awards for top finishers and a 1-mile family walk.  One of our very own employees Elaine Zongker had a team and they participated in the event!  The Pink Drive to Inspire Truck was also at the Susan G. Komen Ocean City Race!  Many signed the truck to support the fight against breast cancer! Susan G Komen has a vision of a world without breast cancer.  Their promise is to save lives and end breast cancer forever by empowering people, ensuring quality care for all and energizing science to find cures.  Susan G. Komen was established in 1982 by Nancy Brinker to honor the memory of her sister Susan G. Komen who died from breast cancer at the age of 36.  For the past 25 years the Susan G. Komen foundation has played a critical role in every major advance in the fight against breast cancer.  They have transformed the way the world talks about and treats this disease.  Their contributions include; more early detection, more hope, more research, and more survivors.  Nearly 75 percent of women over 40 years old now receive regular mammograms, the single most effective tool for detecting breast cancer early.  The federal government now devotes more than $900 million each year to breast cancer research, treatment, and prevention, compared to $30 million in 1982!  America’s 2.3 million breast cancer survivors, the largest group of cancer survivors in the U.S. are a living testament to the power of society and science to save lives. Without a cure for breast cancer 1 in 8 women in the U.S. will continue to be diagnosed with breast cancer.  Also an estimated 5 million Americans will be diagnosed with breast cancer and more than 1 million could die over the next 25 years.  An estimated 25 million women around the world will be diagnosed with breast cancer and 10 million could die over the next 25 years.

Preston Automotive Group is both sponsoring and hosting many events in the near future.  Preston Automotive Group loves being such a big part of the community and they love being able to help out the locals whenever needed. The first upcoming event that we are sponsoring is the Chic-fil-A 5k, 10k, 1 mile charity race! This race will be in Easton, Maryland on March 29 th, 2014.  The races will be held at Idlewild Park in Easton!  Come to run and come to have fun! The one mile family fun run is open to all, with strollers and wagons welcome!  The 5k and 10k will both start at 9:00 a.m. and the Family Fun Run will start at 10:30 a.m.!  There isn’t just the races there will also be games and plenty of activities for the kids! On April 5, 2014 Preston Automotive Group is sponsoring Danny's Walk for Wishes which will benefit the Make a Wish Foundation.  The event will start at 10:00 a.m. and end at 2:00 p.m and will be held at the North Caroline High School Track in Ridgely, Maryland.  There will be food, music, a silent auction, raffle prizes and fun for the whole family!  The Make a Wish Foundation grants the wish of a child diagnosed with a life threatening medical condition in the United States.  The foundation believes that granting a wish can be a game changer! Another upcoming event is a March of Dimes benefit in honor of Mallory’s Marchers on April 12, 2014.  The event will take place in Federalsburg, Maryland at the VFW.  It will start at 7:00 p.m.!  The cost is $10 per person.  The mission of March of Dimes is to improve the health of babies by preventing birth defects, premature birth, and infant mortality.  Every day thousands of babies are born too soon, too small and often very sick.  Come out and help support this great cause! We are hosting our own March of Dimes benefit here at the Autoplex on May 4 th!  The event will start at 12:00 p.m.!  We will walk a total of three miles starting at the Preston Autoplex and going through the town of Preston then coming back and ending at the Autoplex.  We will March for Healthier Babies! On May 3 rd there will be a kickoff event!  Information on that will be available at a later date but it will be a great time for all! Also on May 4 th the Mid-Shore Council on Family Violence will be hosting a Longaberger Basket Bingo Fundraiser to raise much needed funds to operate their crisis shelter.  Mid-Shore Council on Family Violence  is a non-profit organization which has been providing lifesaving services to victims of domestic violence from Caroline, Kent, Queen Anne’s, Dorchester, and Talbot Counties since 1980.  Their mission is to create healthy opportunities to break the cycle of domestic violent through intervention and prevention by providing shelter, counseling services, and advocacy for victims and abusers, and by changing society’s attitudes and systems which permit and promote such violence against women, men and families. On May 5 th Preston Automotive Group is sponsoring the Dave Haslup/Lou Gehrig Athletic Scholarship Foundation Golf Tournament!  The golf tournament will take place at the Hog Neck Golf Course in Easton, Maryland.  The goals of this foundation are to support the youth sports programs in the area by providing financial assistance to those organizations.  They also wish to provide scholarships to Chesapeake College for student athletes from the five-county region served.  Lastly they wish to support several ALS organizations that provide research and patient and family services. Preston Automotive Group will also be hosting numerous events in March, June, and July! The American Heart Association has named February 7, 2014 National Wear Red Day and encourages everyone to Go Red for Women.  Heart disease is the number one killer of women in the United States.  It claims more lives than all forms of cancer combined.  For more than 10 years, the American Heart Association has sponsored National Wear Red Day to raise awareness in the fight against heart disease in women. In 2003, the American Heart Association and the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute took action against a disease that was claiming the lives of nearly 500,000 American women each year.  Many women weren’t paying attention to this disease because to this day women believe that this disease affects mostly men.  National Wear Red Day is held on the first Friday in Feruary every year to raise awareness for heart disease. Today marks the 11 th year anniversary of this event.  This day has accomplished a lot.  In the past 11 years 21 percent fewer women are dying from heart disease.  Even better is the fact that 23 percent more women are aware that Heart Disease is their number one health threat. There are many healthy habits which help to prevent heart disease.  The first one is to quit smoking, we all know smoking is bad for your health so why still smoke?  Another healthy habit is consistent exercise!  Regular physical activity has many benefits such as helping you quit smoking, lose weight, reduce stress, lower blood pressure and increase HDL cholesterol.  Make sure to also manage your stress.  It is important to recognize how stress affects you and how you can deal with it.  Another healthy habit is to eat healthy!  If you do not know what it means to eat healthy then do your research! They are a lot of resources out there that can help you learn! Preston Automotive Group is sponsoring an event being put on by Caroline Humane Society this weekend.  Caroline County Humane Society is doing a dinner and dance this Saturday February 8, 2014 as a fundraiser! The event will take place at the Denton Volunteer Co. Fire Hall from 6-11 p.m.  The Denton Volunteer Fire Hall is located on South Fifth Avenue in Denton, Maryland.  The cost is $35 dollars per person. All proceeds will support the Caroline County Humane Society.  This will be a fun event for people of all ages! The Chesapeake Culinary Center will be providing the food for the occasion.  The menu includes meat carving stations, appetizer station, pasta station and a dessert bar.  The appetizer station will feature hot spinach dip, cranberry meatballs, and sausage and cheese wontons.  The pasta station will have an array of pastas as well as red or white sauce.  Also at the pasta station is Caesar salad and foccia bread.  The dessert bar will have desserts such as chocolate fondue dip for strawberries, oreo cookies or cream puffs. There will be music DJ Matt Spence!  There will also be a Texas Hold-em table where everyone can try their luck at poker!  Another exciting activity is the cake/liquor wheel!  Participants will place money on the number of their choice and when the wheel is spun the number that the wheel lands on is the winner.  The winner will then get their choice of cake or liquor.  There will also be a live auction and silent auction.  Everything made from the auction will go to Caroline County Humane Society.  A cash bar will be present at the event for the adults to enjoy. This a great opportunity for everyone to come out and support the Caroline County Humane Society!  Preston Automotive Group is excited to be able to sponsor an event which supports our local animals who currently don’t have homes.  You can also help by donating items and money to the Caroline County Humane Society.  They could always use food and warm blankets for the animals.  Another great way to help is to adopt a pet or foster a pet through the Caroline County Humane Society. Preston Automotive Group is honored to be sponsoring such a special event that is benefiting the communinty.  They will also be sponsoring another event in March which will benefit Talbot Humane Society, Caroline County Humane Society and TomCat Solutions.

The Preston Automotive Group has a lot of current events going on!  The Preston Autoplex is hosting an event this Saturday December 7, 2013 starting at noon!  The event is a raffle for a Ford Raptor to support the McKenzie Travis Educational Foundation.  There will also be multiple drawings for eight $2500 cash prizes!! Santa will also be present from 11:00 a.m. to 1 p.m. Stop by the Preston Autoplex to get your picture taken with Santa! A Toy for Tots dropoff will be present at Denton Ford, Cambridge Auto Body and Preston Auto Body.  Bring by your toys to any of these locations and young children will get these toys for the holidays!  At the Preston Autoplex there will be a Bears that Care Toy Drive hosted by the Maryland State Police.  In 2012 The Bears that Care Toy Drive held by the Maryland State Police helped over 150 families and 450 children to have a better holiday!  This is amazing!  Not only did the toy drive serve local families but it also donated toys to the Easton Memorial Pediatric ward and to local churches!  The Preston Autoplex wants to help as much as we can to give children a better holiday.  Drop your toys of and help the local families! Preston Hyundai is decorating their building to get very festive.  R.j. Jackson has been decorating the building with his spectacular artwork. He has hand drawn characters on the large windows of the Hyundai building in preparation.  One of the windows has a drawing of The Grinch coming out of a chimney, on the door is a huge Santa Clause drinking a coke, and the last drawing so far is Hermey from Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer!  Hermey is from the island of misfit toys! There will also be a silo lighting here at the Preston Autoplex.  We are going to light the silo so the Autoplex looks festive for the holiday season!   By: April Green

The Preston Automotive Group is raffling off tickets to win a Ford Raptor, this is all to support the Mackenzie Travis Education Foundation.  Not only are the raffle tickets enter you to win a 2013 Ford Raptor but also 1 of 8 cash prizes worth $2500!  The drawing will take place at Preston Ford on December 7 th, 2013 at noon! Tickets are available for purchase at the Ford Cashier or any Preston Automotive Group Manager! The Preston Automotive Group is honored to join with the McKenzie Travis Educational Foundation in a raffle to raise money for their scholarship fund.  McKenzie was killed in a car accident in 2006 when she was just 19.  The scholarship fund is an opportunity to keep McKenzie’s memory alive in a way that has great meaning the family.  From the age of two, McKenzie was involved in softball, over a ten year span she plated recreationally and competitively as well as for Newark High School.  McKenzie was a good student and accomplished athlete.  The scholarship is awarded to outstanding female athletes to support their collegiate endeavors.  Through December of 2012 the McKenzie Travis Foundation has awarded over 102 scholarships with a total amount of $248,500.  Selection is based on academic and athletic abilities along with a large part of the selection process based on community involvement and an essay the students must write. This year at the Delaware Invitational Tournaments the McKenzie Travis Foundation gave 28 students a scholarship of $2,500 each for a total of $70,000!
